Hey Rush, Ive experimented with Bias of 44-46 in mode 1 and gain up to 5 before it starts to get too noisy. Tiniest bit was .02gm, but got quite a few around .05gm. Biggest one there is .5gm. That AI coil is the most sensitive one Ive ever used. Even on the F1A4, it pings .05gm bits.

Just got back the QED from its upgrades and auto GB. Wow! what a huge difference! Its a diff machine now. Lots more quiet and handles the ground so much better that I can boost the gain and bias. Been out for only 6 hours with it and the results speak for themselves. Im just using it as a SDC...

Sadly, my test meter has to go to make way for a new detector 'project'. Only a handful of these were ever built and I'm willing to let it go for basically the cost it was new. $1,000. + post if applicable. These were built by Don Brereton of Micronair engineering and are still the 'ducks guts'...

OK, so the mods create a sorta sub-gram gold specialty machine like the SDC except better depth.....hmmm, seeing how Minelab dont even support or service GP's anymore and theyre cheap, it might be worth a go......

Many months ago, Mick ('Nanotech') in QLD started offering cheapish mods for the GP series, using flat wound coils only. Has anyone ever tried these and can give an honest opinion? He gives a money back guarantee if not happy apparently. Just curious....

Any of the eastern european ones would be fine but not too big. Might spend $100+ Maybe someone's got one sitting under the bed or cupboard that they dont use??? :)

Has anyone got a spare T2 coil they wanna get rid of? Any of the Eastern European ones are fine or an orig USA one. My NEL one has died :(

Laterite is normally associated with high rainfall/tropical regions, either prehistorical or current. Vic has never had the conditions to create it. Its in a lot of locations in SA, NT, QLD and of course WA though.

Amongst all the discussion re laterite, Ive used my QED on hot patches of thick ironstone gravel where the GB numbers were up to 148-9. Bit warbly but signals still popped through. :)

Cool, thanks Mbasko! I havent seen any upgrade price quoted anywhere, even on the QED website! I feel I need some serious hours behind the coil to get the hang of it fully. Lots of settings and adjustment ideas mentioned here to work on :o I havent found any gold that the SDC cant hear yet but...

Ive only used mine 5 times so far, the 1st two times was getting to grips with the settings, coils etc. Working too much and crap weather are mainly to blame. I got 4 bits of gold incl one over a gram. I dont have a big range of coils to test with and I find it produces too much noise between...

Nice setup Petere. Is that a 14x9 EVO coil? Do you think its an advantage with the QED? Big outlay if it aint much better :/

Made up a couple camcorder batteries using DC connectors. Plus an ext cord for the batts as well. Using a small butt pack to house the batts in. Need to reduce weight at all costs due to my injury. Thats the reason I chose the QED to start with: low weight. :-)

Mbasko, the Oxygen Audio set I was using had zero problems until yesty. Prob if I use it again this weekend, it will be fine. But yeah, we want something to run 100% of the time. I tried using my mono extension cable off my 4500 and it doesnt work well on the QED. Too much noise. But on the 4500...
