    Unusual lid, hoping its gold!

    Unusual lid, hoping its gold!

Found this lid thingy and hoping someone may know what its from. Got it near a Railway line along with a few old house bits and pieces...a coat hook, door knob and belt buckle. Possibly railway worker shacks and/or miners camp previously but now grass, walking track, drainpipes and 150 years of...

⭐ Treasure Hunting Show & Tell - Show us your favourite, oldest, best finds.

^^^ Thanks Ramjet, found it at a sporting oval that dates back to the 1880s. Finds were at mixed depth relative to their age....king g. Pennys near the surface, aluminium bits and modern coins down lower or same depth as pre decimals. I cant post a link from my mobile but wikipedia has some...

⭐ Treasure Hunting Show & Tell - Show us your favourite, oldest, best finds.

Found this little fellow a couple of weeks ago. Ive cleaned it with water and a toothbrush and reckon the remaining colors are painted on, not patina or rust. I think its cast from bronze and it stands about 5cm tall. Going to get it xrf tested to see if the metal composition might help with an...

My last trip to the local park

Had a home visit from a pair of detectives asking if I was in a local park at 9.00pm on a particular date. I said probably yes as I have been going out regularly evenings and nights to various places. They said someone had seen me hanging around some trees and reported my rego as they thought I...

    CTX addiction

Fair chance the 925 ring is silver. Common stamp for american/australian stuff rather than hallmarks. Theres a few places in Melbourne who have xrf machines which will give an accurate analysis of metal content. Gold Stackers is where I go to get nuggets and jewellery tested. They normally dont...

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

A dealer loaned me a 2300 for a test drive at xmas. When I collected it he said the headphone socket did not connect well and recommended using cloth tape to secure it. Detector worked fine both with and without headphones.

Strangest find yet 6 x 1cent coins in same hole

Ive found 9 pre-decimals in an area the size of a shoebox, six of them silvers. Way bigger hole than the OPs but all from a single person 2 lots of 2 were stuck together. Would love to dig neat little holes but its hard when ground is dry and hard with little grass. Lucky for me the corellas...

    Gday

Been otherwise occupied for the past 18 months so havent been visiting here. Now I have time and a new 3030 on my side so I hope to be more active on here. Ive detected for nuggets over the last 5 years. No huge finds (unless 7 grams is huge) but I get off on the great outdoors and the thrill...

minelab ctx 3030 metal detector worth the upgrade?

Bought one about 3 months ago and am enjoying using it. Ive swung only minelab PI machines in goldfields previously and it is a completely different experience to get into some parks and see whats still there. Gold hunting finds are getting harder for me (everybody?) and I like detecting for...

    Minelab CTX3030 tips, settings, questions

Anybody used one of these and also the 6" minelab to compare? I got the 6" round and cant knock its performance for finding and pinpointing in very junky areas. Most areas I detect are parks full of junk and also the odd junkie. Ive also used it in some goldfields with limited success...coins...

    Gold detecting Ballarat Victoria

Agree. 4000 is excellent bang for buck. A mate of mine is still running his original battery and after at least a thousand recharges it still goes all day. GPX batterys are darn good things.

    Gold detecting Ballarat Victoria

I live in Ballarat. Used a SD2200d and currently have a GPX4000. For $800 you will get a machine that is as good as useless for finding nuggets in mineralised ground. No exceptions. Spend double the money and get a used Minelab PI. You will then have a chance of actually finding some nuggets...
