Topaz?

Gday trying to id this rock , any help would be much appreciated . My dad thinks quartz and i was thinking topaz , what are your thoughts? or is it just a river stone

it appears to be fairly clear inside, would like to see a side or 2 cut to check it out.

I don't think it's topaz but could easily be wrong.... A scratch test would tell you,topaz is harder than quartz.

Looks like a chalcedony to me.

Chalcedony to me as well by the structure. Definitely not Topaz.

Thanks for the info , the learning begins

so a quick search on the info you guys gave me and i now know chalcedony is 6-7 on the mohs scale.

It's chalcedony Novice - I have a fair bit of the same stuff. Mostly varies between whitish-yellow and pale orange, here's a coupe of better bits.....

You'd probably call the orange ones carnelian
