I use Sunray Pro Gold Headphones. Man, are they comfortable and great sound. Only problem is I don't think anyone in Oz brings them in anymore. I bought mine from USA but it's not cheap by the time you get them here.

Real Leather Cups, Left and Right side individual volume (which works great for me as my hearing isn't so good in one ear), quality toggle switches and plug. The difference in quality when compared to the Koss that came with my 5000, is like comparing the Sandy Shaft compression lock shafts to Minelab's stock offerings- Chalk and Cheese.

A lot depends too on where you are in Oz and what you are searching for. Speakers may be great in many environments, but if you are detecting in a Vic state forest on even a slightly windy day you may not hear any faint deep signals with the gumtrees and ironbarks making a racket. The Sunray Pro Gold also block out more external sounds than most other headphone brands. Combined with my sP01 I only hear the sounds I want to hear.

If you want wireless, then check these out: http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/quest-wirefree-pro-headphones/

If your detector already has a wireless module (like GPZ or CTX3030), or you are plugging into a GPX battery on your back, these are great:

There is also leatherette style earpads to suit, which breath a bit better, considering summer is around the corner:

Hi PhaseTech, I'll be sure to check these out, I can feel a purchase coming on soon :Y:

Aviation headphones are often high impedance (150-300 Ohm) and have drivers that are most efficient at speech frequencies (100Hz-4kHz, peak ~150kHz) whilst having high noise reduction ~23dBa as its damn noisy in a bugsmasher.

This makes them a good, if relatively expensive (when new), option for prospecting as most detectors VCO audio frequencies are also in speech range.

Whether they really work well or not depends on how well they match the impedance of your exact detector.

And the combo needs to match your personal hearing ability & preferences so only one way to find out if it works for you....
