I've spent a bit of time cleaning and organising buttons I've found.

The pics aren't in any order.

I can upload only 5 at a time.

Can I ask, how do you clean them up? I've heard of people using molasses, vinegar and all sorts of stuff. Any tips?

I use a few things. As OzzieAU says an ultrasonic bath helps. Some I use Andres Pencils on and I also use magic sponges on some too.

Dave79 - I suppose you researched some of those great buttons, in particular the 58th Regiment of Foot. I found a button belonging to the 51st but gave it to a keen collector of militaria and police relics. I can't find my photo of it at present but was a bit more worn than yours.

I'd actually never heard of the 58th regiment of foot until now. Quite an interesting story, not sure how one of their buttons got to Tassie. The 2 with the 11 on them are a bit of a mystery, they are similar to French regimental buttons from the American Revolution but I don't think the French were very welcome round here in the 1800s.
