Any ideas on this one? It's 10.8 gms and 28mm diameter
Britannia is facing left but what's got me confused is it looks like a wheel!!..nothin I've seen before! It's a heavy coin and slightly thick. Georgian?? Foreign??

Could be a token, although it's smaller than a penny token, and bigger than a halfpenny token

It's the right size and weight for a George III halfpenny but it's absolutely toast.
Great Find cheers db

Great Find mineallmine, and a tough one to crack. I thought that shield was suss too, as it doesn't match any of the the old King George or Queen Victoria pennies that I have. But I've spent some time searching online for clues and I think it may be a token.

The Obverse of this one has some weird looking geezer on it by the Name of Charles Roe, but the reverse is almost certainly a match for the shield/wheel. If not a corroded Obverse of the same token, I'd say it's almost certainly struck by the same manufacturer for somebody else.

If it is the same token it's age places it at only 3 years after the first fleet arrived. Very impressive :Y:

Well done mate. Think you nailed it :Y:

That's definately the same wheel oh well done!! What the hell did you search for?? Many thanks!! If that's the date, then it now becomes my second oldest coin, the first being a 1790 dutch duit
Absolutely awesome sleuthing mate

Pretty good find for Aust. Congrats.

And well done Deepseeker on the ID. Done well.

As it's toasted, have a think about trying to clean it up a bit to get better definition.
I'm scared that whatever detail is left, I'll lose it'll take some convincing lol

Nice one Mineallmine. That's one of the the things that made it hard at first to ID, in that prior to you cleaning it up it looked like a face looking to the left with a bun in her hair. It clearly looks like Charles Roe's silhouette now though.

In answer to your earlier question, I can't remember exactly what I used as a search query, but once I'd realized it couldn't be anything to do with either King George III, Queen Victoria, or Britannia, I entered something along the lines of- Token Copper Penny, and went through the images until that 6 spoked gear wheel stood out, so luck was on our side too.

I'm happy to have been able to help. I enjoy these puzzles!

Yea I thought the exact same regarding which way the bust was, thought it looked like Victoria as well, but that 'shield' bothered me
Thanks again legend

A good job mineallmine.

Wasn't really worth anything before and still not but at least it is something you can talk about and more recognisable.

Still a good find for Aust.
