The shaft is round and there is a spring loaded button which pops in to the hole you want. I seem to be spending a bit of time trying to find the hole... My solution is going to be, put a little bit of white paint in the other holes. If I catch sight of them, I will know that the spring loaded ball is not far away. Also put a white line lower down on the inner shaft. I go on the beach and have to close it down to get it in my car every time.
Might pull the inner shaft out and join all the dots up and make a white line down the shaft.
