Any water that enters a watercourse in NSW is owned by a Catchment Authority.

Turbidity causes problems for them and so they pull the conservation aspect.

Turbidity, under the right circumstances, promotes cyanobacteria/bluegreen algae, which is a pain in the arse for all concerned but is natures way of oxygenating water.

Hi and welcome to the forum Goldstar.
Might be an idea to introduce yourself to all of us members
It's just a bit of a courtesy thing and also a way of getting a few posts up
to reach your 10 post level.
It's a great way to spark up a conversation if we all know what you're interested in
Such as detecting , panning, sluicing.....gems,gold...new to the hobby or and old hat
with plenty of experience to share

Cheers Banjo

if u dredge a cubic metre material out of a river or pan it i would think it has the same effects like sediment and the releasing of mercury and so on..... your still doing the same thing just a lot slower but there is to much commonsense in that kind of thinking.....

With Victoria pretty much the only state that still allows the use of a water pump on a highbanker etc., dredging isn't likely to be legalised for recreational prospecting anytime at all.
Unfortunately, for the most part, it's been greed & the using of commercial sized equipment that hurt/s us as a hobby.
