Sapphires Sstein and I found on a recent trip to Grabben Gullen, some of the best and biggest stones I've found at this area and ever!
First 4 photos are of a 3.5ct, probably the nicest sapphire I've found to-date
The 5th photo is 4.5ct
And the rest are some of the better sapphires from the trip
Last photo is of some of the Spinels we found, largest one (the flattish one) 21.5ct!!

I wish the photos could do the stones justice, the look far more magnificent in person.

Im also looking for someone to cut a few sapphires, zircons and spinels. If you'd like to offer your service please PM me.
Thanks,
Kotolos

Nice hunting, try the Paramatta Holroyd Lapidary Club to see if any of their members are able to assist.

They have a cutting room for training and if you are interested, they may be able to get you started on a great extension of your hobby.

Black spinel are fun to cut and take a great polish too.

Unfortunately these are from Balfour in Tassy and only copper and tin were found there. Have got some nice gold from crushing pyrite speccies from the Beaconsfield mine waste dumps but unfortunately the new lease holders have discovered this goldmine and are currently excavating and processing it and hoping to recover 30m worth of gold cry

Found this 16.6ct sapphire at a new spot I started digging at grabben gullen, if it wasn't for the distinct blue colour I would of thought it was a spinel this size.
Finding larger and better ones In this new spot, so hope to have many more sapphires to post next week. (third photo sapphire is on the coin, next to two spinels. sorry for the dirty scales lol)

Another mesmerising stone - not bad for a lump of quartz.

Pretty nice Wally. What was your design and index for this? It appears to have no table but that may be an illusion.

Correct on the no table Pat, wasn’t thinking much of the stone and was trying out an old Robilt machine to see what ‘engineering ‘ went into it. Adopted a simple 8 sided stone design to start with but kept the girdle round on transfer. Had to freestyle the rest as the transfer was a disaster. Thought it might come up ok as a pendant stone being about 12mm in diameter so decided to do a rose crown at 22deg to test the accuracy of the Robilt.

Polish is a bit substandard for my liking but the cheater on the old Robilt is a bit crude and I didn’t give the stone the credit it deserved.....still....very happy with the outcome.

Now working on turning some fire-ruined 925 NoX finds into a ‘rustic’ pendant, had some success with creating match-stick prongs to hold the stone ???
