Gold Buckle Ring

Hi Guys,
I need help identifying the hallmarks on this old Buckle Ring I found recently at an old timers camp, any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Apart from this I haven't found much more info

That buckle with star design looks similar to the symbols associated with the US Masonic Shriners order - a crescent moon, a scimitar and a star:

That looks like a '15' which would indicate 15 carat gold. Not sure of the other assay marks.

That's a British firm established in 1949. OP's ring was made by an older Melbourne company.

I thought maybe the Hallmark had not changed, or they would have info on the old company. The company was still around in 1924 in Perth WA and it is a private family company run by a whole lot of the Macrow family.

hi Kev,

Very nice find, and is definitely an old ring.

It is stamped with hallmarks that were registered by the Victorian Manufacturering Jewellers' Association which I believe was the first attempt at an Australian hallmarking system. The association had a short life from 1889 to the early 1920's so your ring would date from this period.

The third last hallmark on your ring is the manufacturer's mark, which is a thistle for Macrow.
