Hi everyone, I'm heading up to Cooktown soon and was hoping i could do some panning in the palmer river region.

Can anyone give me any tips of where to go?
Is there any access restrictions?
Tips on how to avoid Crocodiles in the rivers etc.?
anything to consider with regards to land access/permissions?

1) Everyone will tell you where to go.

2) Crocodiles ? ......... just poke 'em in the eye

.

Sorry , i have nothing serious to say but some knowledgeable fellows will come paddling by here shortly in their 9 foot croc resistant tinny.

If blokes can survive up there in a 9 foot long tinny then you know they gotta have some sound advice. if they dont get eaten on the way.

Unfortunately it's all on private land, cattle stations, mining leases etc with no permission. Palmverville station has apparently opened up, but they are hard to get in contact with.

Try googling golden spear mine, they are up this way near the Palmer and I think they let people camp/pan on their property
