I'm looking to buy a secondhand GPX4500.

Last night I saw an ad on Gumtree for a GPX4500 with a few coils and accessories for $4000 neg. The ad said it had been bought at Miners Den Mitcham in 2019 and it still had warranty. It was located 260 kms away. When I rang the first time I went straight to voicemail. Rang a second time, again left a message, and this time the guy called me back. He said he'd be happy to drive and meet up halfway. We semi-negotiated a price and I asked for the serial number. He said he'd email that to me and I said I'd call him back in 20 minutes after a quick chat to my partner. Within five minutes the Gumtree ad had been marked as sold and when I rang him back in 20 there was no answer. Left a message but he hasn't rung back and he hasn't emailed me any serial number. This morning another ad he had on gumtree for something else has also been marked as sold.

I think I got out of jail there. Thanks for the tips in this thread.

Yep, close shave Puddinluddin. I even bought my GPX 5000 off of Gumtree and thought I was protected as I used Paypal. It was only much later after I had received it that a member on here brought it to my attention that there is no PayPal protection with Gumtree :8

Fortunately the story had a happy ending though, as I received the serial number from the seller and checked it with Minelab first, and PayPal held his payment until I had received it and was happy with it, and had checked that it worked.

It's sad that they are still getting into the country, but until the Chief Bat-Eater tells his countrymen to get serious about copyright and respecting patents, it will be an ongoing occurrence.

Theres a fake being sold on gumtree in monbulk for $150. Its advertised as a copy so nothing dodgey on the sellers part (much).

It's also shown in his Recently Sold list as having been previously sold back in June. Must have been a boomerang!:

Either sold prior or just deleted the ad to bump up for free.
I didn't realise you could see prior sales on gumtree via web browser. Thats a feature i might use in future to checkup further on sellers/items before making a purchase. Thanks for the tip gs.
