Hey Marksman,
Seroquel (quetiapine) is powerful stuff. It's an atypical antipsychotic - so is a treatment for hallucinations and other symptoms of psychosis. It definitely has a place in the treatment of psychotic illness, but patients need to be monitored closely. Off-label prescriptions by GP's to treat anxiety and insomnia, as well as its use in geriatric patients, is pretty controversial. You also need to wean off it gradually.

Every single medication known to humans can cause other problems and has risks associated with their use. This is where doctors weigh up the potential risks and benefits and prescribe based on what they think will help or not. All medications have inherent risks, even herbal suplements have risks.

Everyone can react differently also. Myself personally, I'd rather suffer a bit of pain than have to take medications such as those.
Very true

Lyrica has given me my life back. I have a congenital malformation of the lower spine, which along with arthritis, gives me sciatica-type pain 24/7, but particularly at night. Before Lyrica, I was miserable, inactive and chronically sleep-deprived. Now I can physically do at least as much as most of my peers, and my emotional outlook has improved. So regarding the info above, I'm between a rock and a hard place?
Don't give up. Keep searching and you will find someone that can help you to the point that you may be able to stop or atleast reduce the drugs

I call Lyrica my magic pill. It lets me walk upright and almost normal. About 18 months ago, I got tired of taking painkillers and the leg pain and spasms were getting worse so doubled the dose, Doc said I could, one at night and one in the morning. In less than a week I was ripping the heads off my work mates. Went back to just one in the morning and I'm back to my normal happy self. I wont stop taking it. Not till my back is fixed.

Drugs affect different people different ways. Most have no adverse side affects. Unfortunately, Doctors roll the dice and mostly get it right

on a lighter note. just for a laugh i'll tell ya all something that happened to me with some meds.

doc gave me something to take at night because of lack of sleep, i was also an angry bastard. ( i spent many a night sitting up with back and neck pain ), doc gave me something that got me to sleep but i started to sleep walk, so someone comes into me one morning and said what did you do last night? i said why? and im told the loaf of bread had about 6 slices taken out of the loaf and they had a big bite missing and put back in the bag  then i hear " and there's plates and bowls in the fridge " i put half a dozen clean plates and bowls in the fridge FFS     needles to say i stopped taking that.

Well...Just recently I contracted a dose of SHINGLES!...Trust me, you don't want a dose of shingles! Doc put me on Lyrica for pain and Ezovir for the shingles...result the shingles is easing but the Lyrica did jack-shite for the pain!Neurofen+Panadol took care of it.I don't wish to go back to the days of my mental collapse but the upshot of it has resulted in me being on Seroquel and Effexor for the last 15 years...for the most part they have been a godsend to me...though I sometimes have mild symptoms of just wanting to withdraw and sleep and rest as I get very tired at times The longterm use of these two drugs has resulted in weight gain around my middle...which is sometimes interpreted...even by medical practitioners as excessive eating or poor diet or both. :/ ...I agree that everyone has their own unique reaction/non reaction to medical prescriptions and if it works for you then that's what is important.

2 months ago, I was diagnosed by my GP with tennis elbow. A month later he told me it was NOT tennis elbow but as he was unsure what it was he prescribed Lyrica for the pain. Based on information I've read on another forum and on my own Google search, I post this as a warning to members who may be using the medications - Neurontin and Lyrica. Google has a number of articles going back a few years warning about these 2 drugs. Today on another forum I found the following -

"Neurontin and its newer more potent version, Lyrica, are widely used for off-label indications that are an outright flagrant danger to the public. These blockbuster drugs were approved for use even though the FDA had no idea what they actually did in the brain. A shocking new study shows that they block the formation of new brain synapses, drastically reducing the potential for rejuvenating brain plasticity meaning that these drugs will cause brain decline faster than any substance known to mankind." Other reports also claim they may induce induce suicidal thoughts.

Following is a link to one of the articles - https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/clinical-research-finds-neurontin-lyrica-death-sentence-hind-kattar

It would be wise to get actual reliable medical opinions - the article you have posted was written by a nutritionist - an improbable expert on this topic of brain chemistry - and posted by someone who markets dietary supplements.

The company was not fined because the drugs were found to be dangerous for their prescribed purpose (or necessarily even dangerous at all) but "The government said the company promoted four prescription drugs, including the pain killer Bextra, as treatments for medical conditions different than those the drugs had been approved for by federal regulators". "In financial filings in January, the company had indicated that it would pay $2.3 billion over allegations it had marketed the pain reliever Bextra and possibly other drugs for medical conditions different than their approved use". i.e. the fine was for promoting them for uses other than they had been approved.

I know nothing about these drugs, but as someone who has to take a cocktail of pills, I am cautious about the source of my advice. Why not discuss it in detail with your doctor, and get a second opinion elsewhere? Anyone can put anything on Google - they can be cranks, competitors, people getting ready to sue a company in a civil action.....

Im not sure whether we are just lucky but we have been fortunate to have the same family doctor for 35 plus years, he has seen the birth of our three children and now their children. He has been a rock thru Lorraines illnesses, nothing but accommodating when it comes to honest and frank discussions around various treatments and medications. Always, where he felt it appropriate has he offered referrals to specialists and where not appropriate he has been quite strong in his opposition.
He constantly reviews medications and is always questioning their results and effects.
I am always concerned by threads like these and the need to supposedly warn people of a medications side effects, surely if you are prescribed a medication you read the list of possible side effects, discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist and make an informed decision and keep an eye out for complications and side effects.
We are all different in our ability to tolerate pain, as we are all different in the way we metabolise and react to medications.
Above all, seek professional help, make informed decisions and have honest discussions with your doctors.
I wish you all the best.

I believe all medicines have this shortcoming. No matter what drug you may check, there will always be some side effect for it. I am hesitating about some food supplement for improving potency, and it is Cialis in Australia online. If anyone here has a similar experience of taking such substances, I would appreciate it a lot if you share your feedback. It is the best way to learn how medicine works.
