Given similar size coils, does anybody know how the Nox 800 running in gold modes compares to the GM 1000?
Hi Pete
Ive got both and have done tests against each other and I personally believe the Monster Just has the edge over the Nox 800 with the 6 inch coil on it, I was surprised how close they were though I thought the Nox had the Monster on depth though.
Hope that helps.

That's very interesting..I don't think there is any gold prospecting with metal detectors done over here, so I have always wondered about the more specialist detectors you guys use...

Hey guys it's been a while...glad to see this has helped some in understanding the monster..I havent used the monster for white some time ...but got a chance to head out to the patch for a short hunt in some washouts...heres the results from 3 hrs of work 4.21g

Gday Maccatuna, well done on the finds :Y: .I put my order in for a GM yesterday and lookin forward to the day it arrives so i can finally get out there. Im not sure if they are out of stock everywhere due to being really popular at the moment or if covid is putting a hold up in customs for minelab or something. Anyways, its reassuring for me that ive made a descent choice on a starter detector when i see nice finds of the good stuff that youre putting up and using the GM. Have you got any pros or cons or a preference of the coils that come with the GM?
Hope you have plenty more good finds.
Cheers dreadie

I tend to favour the smaller coil as its easier to get into all those spots most other detector coils wont fit...
The bigger coil is good to cover ground quicker , it will shoot deeper but if you do find gold make sure you go back over the area with the smaller coil as it will miss smaller more prickly gold....clear off any overburden in creeks and gullys as this will increase you odds As well....good choice for a detector .. all I use is the monster and the gpz this covers most scenarios...

Given those two machines are pretty much polar opposites of each other in Minelabs lineup, what scenarios would you use one over the other?

Does owning the GPZ not make the GM redundant, or are there circumstances when the GM is better suited?

Regards,

Peter

I will always enter a new spot with monster....starting in the gullys, washouts and creek beds....this is how I locate the gold....once Ive located it will spend time getting what I can With the monster...then I will start to use the zed ...I will use the zed to find deeper targets ..I will spread out With the zed to follow leads and stringers...then once Ive got an area mapped out I will clean up again with the monster...This way Im sure I have covered all depths and target sizes....
Instead of pans I use the monster And a rake to locate gold...

Thanks for the tips Maccatuna, legend. Hopefully down the track i can get a big brother for the monster but for now ive got plenty to learn with what ive got before getting too carried away.
Cheers mate :Y:

Thanks to all. I have read this through and recon Ive saved 6 months of experimentation and trial and error. Im hoping to get up to NE Vic in early Dec- Chiltern, Eldorado, Woolshed areas.
Thanks again.
