Spectacular finds mate, that eagle and snake is cool, do you think it maybe the top of a letter opener? :Y:

Possibly, I found another character a while back that was of a similar size - it was a squirrel holding an acorn. Got to love the variety of Victorian era sites.

Can't say I have been too active over the last couple of weeks for obvious reasons, though I did get out to two locations a couple of weeks back -- just been a bit lazy posting.

Yet another 1800's cottage locality, picked up some jewellery pieces including half of a silver bracelet and a more modern marcasite broach. Best find was the excellent condition 1895-96 dog registration tag, one of many that have come from this site over the last few years. The age of the site is evident from the percussion caps, musket balls and brass body shotgun cartridges.

I had two coins come from the same hole, though were only a pair of corroded ww2 era coppers. Might have to detect the back yard in desperation! :argh:

Feels like forever since I've been out, this is a little detect I did a while back on burnt down 1800's house site - a very difficult to detect site thanks to plenty of fallen trees to navigate around. Good targets were predictably thin on the ground, with the saviour being an 1894-95 SA dog rego tag, and a Paris type buckle. Not sure what the chain is from, probably too short for anything to do with a fob watch. :D

Hey Goldpick - I found almost exactly the same chain about 4 months ago before lockdown. I thought it could be from a fob watch but it looks a bit short for that. Any idea folks?

I have some tidbits from various detecting sites from over the last few weeks, mostly WW2 era and the odd 1800's sites. Have really been struggling with motivation to head out into the cold temps lately, must be age creeping in I reckon. :|

Not a huge lot to show, a few roo pennies/half pennies, rough looking Anzac Day pin, pocket knife, a very nice thimble, and a selection of Lesney toy cars. I always find plenty of toy gun pieces around these sites, this time with part of a Dick Tracey pistol - cigarette lighters are also quite common.

Now hopefully I can keep on a roll and get back into some detecting again - stay well out there. ;)

In search of ever elusive sites, today had me driving all over the countryside for not much return - two 1800's buttons, plus a 1934 and Victorian 1876 penny. Feeling a bit let down a night detect was on the cards to make amends, mainly sweeping over parks that had been good to me in the past, hoping to snag a few missed coins.

Rugged up in my thermals, a cold night provided a very surprising trio of florins - two within a few feet of each other right near the entrance (could have sworn I'd coverered that), and the 1927 florin was a loner out the middle of nowhere next to an Anzac Day pin. The threepence also came from within cooee of the first two florins, and the various pennies were spread all over the place. Damn it was cold, trying to wipe a runny nose with muddy hands was no easy task, though very happy with what was the best hunt in a long while.

Bulbs are pretty common on olders sites around here.

I reckon that might be my first ever 1940 florin.

Nice to see those two older florrie's pop up.... they're seemingly scarcer nowadays.

Another night out in ths hunt for some silver. It was a very slow to start with only one sixpence and a handful of BB's, though with some patience throughout the night I managed a few good coins from amongst the modern junk. I eventually got rained out with the elusive shilling preventing a complete full house, but I reckon 35 coins was plenty enough, plus the body was starting to protest in pain. ;)

Off to somewhere completely different today, having the previously hunted old racecouse in mind for a visit. Most of the larger copper/silver coins have well and truly been hunted out here by other detectorists, hence the only remaining coins are usually threepences and sixpences being obsucred by ground cover or other in-ground junk. Am quite surprised at the resulting 8 silvers for only a couple of hours detecting - dates include 1941, 2x1943, 1944, 1919 for the threepences, and 1959, 1956, 1920 sixpences. :D

Had time to sneak out for a night detect in 3 degree temps, coins were thin on the ground with a lone 1943 threepence plus a pair of roo pennies & half pennies making up the predecs. Also come across a very corroded Rising Sun, not sure whether it is a sweetheart versin for raising war funds ir the genuine article. The best find by far was the result of the highest clean tone that I have ever come across on the deus, and with a fair bit of digging out came a near complete (sort of) Swiss made pocket watch.

It is proving quite hard to clean, though after a few baths in the ultrasonic cleaner I managed to get one of the covers open, revealing some quite intricate markings and characters. Anyway, also managed to get the front cover open and voila, no watch - I though it felt a bit lightweight. So looks like the original owner damaged the case and transferred the inner workings over to a new one, which is not uncommon.
