New looking to detect relics and gold

Hi all I finally got myself a detector an equinox800 and am keen to go detecting with some one who is experienced and wouldn't mind me tagging along I live in West Vic so looking to go around great Western, Beaufort ballarat areas if any one goes there and wouldn't mind me tagging along would prefer public land that is fairly easy to access let me know if any one can help mostly not sure on how to use my detector or if I'm using it right thanks

I live out in Horsham but try to get to Beaufort and the like on the weekends

Yeah clyour right there not too far to go just love getting out of town and finding stuff buttons coins anything always exciting absolutely loving it
