Yesterday the temperature hit 43C for most of the afternoon. It felt hotter and perhaps it was but I just went with the weather channel.
I didn't start until after 6 pm and went on into the night.
It's a bit cooler today but my legs are feeling it from backing down that ladder with a pan of concrete over and over again. Perhaps I'll have another go later on.

Yesterday was cool, in fact so cool that I didn't go out until it warmed up a bit
I managed to coat the other side with a layer of render. There's no water proofing or reinforcing in this layer. It's just a layer of concrete to hold the loose dirt in place but after all the work of laying it on I wish I'd just gone ahead and added the fibre and water proof solution so that it would be ready for the rubber.
Anyway I've smoothed out the lumps and bumps and it's ready for the next coat. That's where I should be now but I'll get there soon....

We arrived in Geraldton on Thursday to knock off some legal matters and lop a big gum tree. The wind was gusting to 78 kph but by today the wind had pretty much disappeared.
The tree might not look that big but when you see the 15m cherry picker up there you realize how tall it is.
Taz took a look at the chipper but wisely left that job to Mrs M.
Sandra enjoyed playing with the big-boys-toys.
And then she had to take Taz up for a look.
He had a bird's eye view from here.
Zimba got the job of loading the logs.
By the end of the day the poor old tree was reduced to mulch.
And firewood....
The tree might not look that big but when you see the 15m cherry picker up there you realize how tall it is.

Dangerous work Phew!!
We had a friend who is a fireman come and remove a tree from the front yard. He was very cautious due to the age of the tree and was still hit in the back by swinging branches . He held every cut limb by ropes and took him all day.

My pond sealant turned up yesterday. Well it most likely came in a week ago but we've been away and yesterday was my first opportunity to pick up the mail.
It was good timing because the rain water has just dried up.
I said to Mrs M "I'm going to clean the pond up ready to apply the rubber coating".
She said "Wouldn't you build the bridge first"?
I said "Bridge"?
She said "Yes. You said if ever I get a pond you'll build me a bridge over it. You PROMISED."
Well obviously I'd been caught in a weak moment
Fortunately they don't come around too often. The most recent one has lasted something over 60 years, I'm used to it, there's no point in arguing :|
After an early start I had the first chunks of wood cut and then I had a bright idea, if Mrs M wants a bridge perhaps she'd like to build it.
She didn't take much convincing because she enjoys playing with boy's toys
While Mrs M was looking after the wood I started on the mounting brackets.
Before long we had the beginning of a bridge built.
It's after 11am and too hot now. When you grab the thermometer and it reads 'outside limits' you know it's too hot to be out there.
I had to chill the thermometer in the freezer for a few minutes to get a reading. This was the patio floor in the shade.
It's a bit hotter in the sunlight..... :argh:

Mrs M chose 'Delicious Red' for the bridge structure with the deck to be in a contrasting colour.
While she attended to that I got on with the pond lining.
During the week since the mortar had been applied it rained and some areas had leached lime. I washed those areas down with water and vinegar.
While I was waiting for the red paint to dry I visited Cue Bunno and brought back some old pallets for the bridge deck.
The frame of the pallets gave me the railing posts as well. While I dressed the posts Mrs M primed the deck timber.
Then I got on with putting the main rails back in place.
By then the flooring was ready to go down.
We laid it roughly with just a centre line of screws because it would come out easily again for painting.
The easiest way to get the timber all the same length is to trim it in position.
We didn't want the offcuts hitting the new pond lining so we caught them on the tarpaulin.
We've started on the railings now but the paint has run out so it looks like we're going for a trip somewhere soon......
