The blue poles of poetry.... so simple.... and yet so intense,...... the sort of thing one thinks "I could'a done that meself.... if only I'd a thunk of it first". But of course second is best yet only to none as always and in so saying likened to the poles would only ever be an estimation in mimicry at best.
As in
Straight from the heart I see.... the blood that comes from thee.
And then even not close to a second place by a mile..... like a voyeur into the mind of the baby camel slayer himself I find myself once again fall short.... like a shot with too little grain.

I wrote this one for my Mum on Mother's Day about 30 years ago.

THE WORLD'S GREATEST MUM

Who stopped me teasing Cats & Dogs?
Who stopped me Blowing-up the Frogs?
Who stopped me calling Neighbors Wogs?

-The World's Greatest Mum.

Who put me over her bent knee,
For pulling wings off Flies and Bees?
Who made a person out of me?

-The World's Greatest Mum....

Dr Seuss visits P.A.

I would not swap for an SDC,
oh no, oh no, oh no not me!

I would not swap for an SDC,
not 1, or 2, or even 3!

I would only swap my GPX,
for bags of gold, and lots of Sex!
or perhaps instead, it could also be,
for a GPZ or QED?

But the SDC is not for me,
(I like my gold bigger than point zero three).

The Perfect Storm.

It all began...like , years ago, Quiet like ...you wouldnt know
First a day and then a week,no one noticed the rise in heat
The cockies said.Well shell be right. We can fill up the dam from the river tonight
Turn on the pumps and let em rip.No one noticed the river level slip.

And townsfolk proud of their manicured lawn began to notice it was looking forlorn
Break out the sprinklers, she be right leave them going all bloody night.
Then, the rain clouds started to slip well south...not very much in the rain gauge mouth
And somebody shouted the climates changed.Silly bloody dole bludger his half deranged.

Then the gum trees bereft of water to their roots began having trouble producing new shoots
So they dropped a branch, bark and old leaves,on the forest floor they were thick as thieves
And time went by and the trees suffered more and the fuel load thickened on the forest floor
And the rivers ran dry all the dams were empty what more could happen..mate there was plenty

For the science came in from years of research please heed the evidence or be left in the lurch
Fires getting bigger hotter and will spread conflagration on a scale to do in your head
No one was listening to the scientists speech they all were on holidays down at the beach
Till fate turned the tables in favour of Dire a multi-pronged monster in the form of a fire.

A fire for the ages like no other before, quick grab the children run for the shore
Where was our Leader...well he went on leave off with the family to Hawaii I believe
Meantime the nation went up in flames and the pollies played on with their political games
After much to and froing and jumping through hoops they finally decided to send in the troops.

And our volunteer heroes have come to the fore and we will celebrate them for ever more
Men and women theyve all been so brave we mourn for their fallen now in the grave
And the monster roars on there is no respite Im praying for rain to muffle it;s bite
And the nation will fight to re-establish the norm and long well remember

Thanks for the 'like' people...very hard in light of the death and destruction to come up with anything to do justice to what's happening. Just felt compelled to write ...something!...for it brought back memories of when I was a young 20 year old volunteer facing the flames here in the Illawarra back in '68...it still remains as one of the most traumatic periods in my life and I dare say for many others that stood beside me back then.No helicopters or aerial bombers back then, just beating sticks and 3 gallon knapsacks!...Bulli, Woonona, Mt Keira,Mt Kembla...virtually the whole escarpment was a bloody hell-hole...and development has extended much more since those days which leaves the Illawarra,'given the fuel buildup since 68' a ticking time-bomb.

Thela Hun Jingeet.

Gold pebbles of Tasmanian smog,
Dick on lawnmower thinking of brunch,
Yabbie pump suck like the old Chevrolet,
Take me back home to where to my head lay.
Muscles aching Trump on my mind,
Gotta pay bills before the sun is all gone.
I have a fine friend whose blog could tangle with such noble words.

The Weekly Shop

I havent got a roll to spare,
Your bum is sore? Well I dont care.
My 60 packs seems more than fair,
Its just my weekly shop

So my trolley has 50 cans of soup?
Ill eat them all, then need to poop.
Why call me out? How low some stoop!
Its just my weekly shop.

Oh, so now it seems that you also take issue,
With my 15 boxes of Kleenex tissues?
When will this harassment & madness stop?
-Just buy it from my ebay shop..

The Australia I grew up in was not like it is here now
The nation that was forged from caring stock has been all but wiped out somehow
Of course there is a core group of souls who I describe as Dinky Di
Alas! There is a growing mob with whom I dont see eye to eye.
They live in ugly boxes on tiny blocks of land
No thoughts at all for neighbours who might need a helping hand
Theyre mainly narcissistic fools with all the right gadgets and all the right tools
They snap a pic here and snap a pic there, post it up on facebook with tinsel in their hair.
Their selfish ways have come to the fore its everywhere to be seen
Theyve raided the stores and emptied the shelves through fear of Covid19
Is this what our nation has become... a sniveling selfish mob
Beware the Ides of March I say lest they might lose their job.
Then stand back and hear the moansin the suburbs. mournful tones
Oh poor us we have no food no paper to wipe our arses
Will you all stand by us as we battle this virus...well no...just wait till it passes.

Gourmet Food

Oh, for a peck of Pangolin,
Or a serve of rodent Pie,
for Fugu Ill go angling,
and eat until I die!

Who could say no to Otters ears?
Or Pigs Uterus (dare I say it),
even if my stomach hurts
and in the loo I spray it!

But roasted Bat now theres a dish,
Who could say no to that?
with coffee beans from Possum sh1t,
and tail of Civet Cat.

What's wrong with just a Pie & Sauce?
-No wonder the worlds bloody crook :argh:

Thanks Reefer,

It's crazy for sure. Apparently in China it's a traditional practice for men to eat some parts of exotic animals to help maintain their "vigor"

I can see the Covid19 morgue now, with all these dead old guys lined up on trolleys, every one of them killed by Corona but laying there with a woody

Well here I sit to wait n watch
see if I live or die
corona's gunna sneak on up
or p'haps just pass me bye
I guess I just don't care too much
for if I live or die
but if I can't just wipe my date
a bloke could just, well cry.
I guess I care a bit too much
for when life spins its wheel
that all our grans could disappear
N how that'd make us feel.
And would the youth care just as much
as they make their secret deals
N kiss n hug n all such stuff
knowing what they really feel
will I be safe, or you , or you
as we send our kids to school
with common sense thrown out the door
by our best elected officials
they let the virus in before
while quoting all official
we're taking on the best advice
of the AMA's head whistle.
The eight balls moving sure enough
but boy the game is slowed
so please make sure you plan ahead
n make sure as you go
to think your way ten steps ahead
to skip those family woes
Stay safe, stay smart, stay well aware
n help out where you can
but most of all get kitted up
as we all make our stand
let's beat this bastard virus back
from bloody hell Wuhan.

great effort there silver!...especially pertinent for those of us who are considered'elderly'.I like the way your phrasing of ideas is becoming more ordered and much more contiguous with the rhythm of the overall work...it clearly is the work of someone compelled to write down what he/she was feeling at the time and I like that....so from someone who has absolutely no business in doing so, you have won this months newly inaugurated ...Poem of the Month! :flowers: :Y: :money: :trophy:

A most agreeable vote of confidence from myself with regards your newly adopted position of Monthly Adjudicator of Poetry, and thus, I most humbly accept said Poem of the Month for the above work with many thanks Reefer.... and being as there are yet a few days left for the Month of March will just as humbly relinquish it to the Author of any Greater Work that may yet arise from any one of the Great Minds that abode within our Ranks.

The ballard of emotionless text.

Tough times use to bring folks together
floods, fires or just the horrible weather.
But in hardship you could always depend
On support from family , strangers or a friend

But now it is the age of internet and social media
It turns average yobs into walking encyclopedias.
We are all googling the same friggin site
Yet its a full blown pissing comp to prove whos right.

Upon high horses galloping through cyber space
Ride gangs of keyboard warriors, avatars for a face
Gospel is their opinion. god help if you dont agree
They'll correct you, suttle . . . like being hit with a tree

Sometimes i believe they dont even read the reply
They just gather their possy and let the keys fly
Quote, paste , argue and throw in some links
Stupidly assuming they will change how one thinks

They seem fully consumed like it really matters
Absorbed in the stormy tea cup, like mad hatters
So I jest and i joust, giggling as i stir it some more
Pausing to realise, Bugger i to became a keyboard warrior :8

My favourite and oh so true:

If by Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, dont deal in lies,
Or being hated, dont give way to hating,
And yet dont look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dreamand not make dreams your master;
If you can thinkand not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth youve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: Hold on!

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kingsnor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything thats in it,
Andwhich is moreyoull be a Man, my son!
