Thanks Billy and RM. My wife loves the fact that each part of it has a family origin and I designed it for her.
I feel like Ive taken things that have been stored in boxes for years and turned them into something to be enjoyed. A rewarding result all round.

My daughter and I joined the local lapidary club recently. My first attempt at opal. I bought the rough at the local gem show for $10https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/img/member-images/10889/1576898886_opal1.jpg
Happy with the way it came uphttps://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/img/member-images/10889/1576898942_opal2.jpg

Nice one to end the year on Wally... although I had to google it to know what I was looking at. Amazing.

Thanks guys........I put it on a mirrored turntable on the kitchen bench this morning, it mesmerised me for a significant period of time and my coffee went cold.

:8 .... I should have posted a before shot....

The X you can see on the left are coloured filaments of different primary colours. They are used in projectors or for science experiments.

They are good to cut with because they just look like ordinary crystal glass and facets are easy to see, it is not until you remove it from the dop that the light refracts and makes the cut gem sing.. I think these cubes will be my go-to when trialing new designs; cheap enough to make a mistake with but dazzling enough to disguise any.

 Trippy on a turntable, cheap Acid man..... :) Had a look at these on eBay and yes, cheap for some crazy effects. Did you just Dop on a flat face and go from there, or create a new Dopping table off centre? This is a killer compared to Mystic Quartz.

Doped straight on the top of the X with superglue - was slightly off centre but dont think that matters, other than making the corners a bit off the filament plane.

Had plenty of depth in the stone, so trimmed a couple of mm off with a saw when I transferred it, so if dropping on the adjacent side, the x might end up low or high and might give a more dominant colour spectrum. - worth an experiment

:inlove: Love the before, and, the after :inlove:

Thanks wally. Manage to find someone to cut them at such a small size. The cabbed chrysoberyl I'll be getting put into a necklace for the wife and one of the royal blue sapphires in a ring. The sparkle of the sapphires is amazing when in the right light
