I think square bar, will tend to jamb up a lot less.
I saw a grizzly bar once that had a pinned axle up top, allowing each bar to be lifted independently from the lower end. And the lower end had a cross bar notched for each finger to rest in, keeping it in line.

I agree. Having edges on the grate/grill makes it a lot easier to break up the dry compacted clumps and such.
I'm thinking anything round might just allow a lot of the material to slide right over the top??
Haven't used any other machines except the Keene ones but I would think the grates on them would be close to whats best, lots of angles/edges.

Hey 9od, are we talking about east/west bars, or north/south (vertical).
Vertically, round bar tends to jamb just a bit more than flat bar.
3 or 5mm x 12mm alloy flat bar will keep the weight down.
I prefer to use Stainless steel punch sheet.
Strong once a lip is is folded on each side.
You want high percentage punch. ( lot of holes psm)
I can source at a decent rate if needed.
There is a preferable side to use on this stuff....
One has a dimple from punch process.
The other side is flat and is not deformed with dimples
Use this side up.
Less jambing occurs.

Remember there is no rule that a classifier has to be parallel to the base of the hopper.

Na, mine is the diamond pattern mesh (diamonds being horizontal), very much like the stuff people put at the top of their sluice to catch gems etc. I'll se if I can find a pic
