SDC2300 Batteries and Chargers

Bought a couple of tubes from Woody-Foot Industries and 2 X 18650 Li-Ion from ebay. (Never get a drop out and swing all day.)
The original "C" cells are purely back up, however feel sure they will see out their days in retirement.

2 X 18650 Li-Ion and use the "C" as emergency but 2 lots of 2x18650 and the "C" just sit in the car.

Been using these for a few seasons but unfortunately not in 2020, no fault of batteries.

Anyone still selling the holders/tubes for the 18650 batteries? Only thing I can find is the Minelab sealed unit.

you can make your own battery holder with:
1x bit of 20mm white pvc tube
4 x push on 20mm end caps
4 x ~4mm dia x 12mm long springs.

all bits are from Bunnings and total less than $25.

Basically
1)cut tube so that when end caps are pushed on the whole thing is same length as 2xC cell batteries end to end.

2)drill hole in each end cap to fit spring.

3) mark a big red plus on 2 end caps and a big black minus on the other end cap

4) push on one end cap with spring poking out a bit and push a bit of blutack into the hole feom the inside to stop the spring falling out

5)glue or duct tape the cap onto the tube

6) insert 2x charged 18650 batteries

7) duct tape on the other end cap and spring.

make 2nd set and insert both in series into SDC.

if sdc door doesnt close properly trim a little off the tube.

Dissassemble holders to charge batteries

i would post a photo but am interstate for xmas.

including the batteries prob costs $40, so half of ML battery but is more fiddly to use.
