Just a quick question everyone: I've managed to find myself a second hand QED that im purchasing but it hasn't been updated to the latest level, therefore it doesnt have the mode 16 which is the beach mode. Could anyone tell me how the QED fared before the latest update and if its essential that I get it updated? I was thinking of maybe holding off for a while before I did if it works just fine
Thanks

Mode 16 isn't really needed unless you plan on doing a lot of beach detecting with the QED.
If the used price is right then you can save a fair bit as the upgrades are very cheap with the QED platform (in many cases postage costs only).
The upgrades don't take long either so if you buy it & have a couple of busy weeks coming up you could send it off for upgrades then? Possibly contact Howard with the serial number & he will tell you if he thinks it should be upgraded due to any other improvements he's done.
If the currently under trial auto ground tracking is successful then it may be better to wait until that's ready & send it in then.

Yeah I dont plan on doing any beach detecting I was just wondering if there was anything else that came with that update.

If there might be an auto ground tracking in the works then I might just hold out for that, im sure I will probably manage until then.
If I run into any trouble I'll ask on here or call up Reg, he seemed nice and im sure he wouldnt mind helping me out if I had a question or 2.

The video is going to be done with,
An SDC, 4500, 5000.

We are going to locate a target first,
Put the detectors across it,
Then dig it up.

I don't have the new software yet so
it will be a bit of fun.

Also going to do the same at the bash.
With the new software and in a secret spot.
A potato patch.

Goldchaser, stick to things that you know something about. (Whatever that may be)
It's painfully obvious that you know nothing about the QED, and little about gold.

Honesty and integrity,i know a little about that, now i work in one of oz’s largest gold mines, been prospecting for 22yrs,found a bit of gold including multi kg patches, just back with 4kg of speci’s (7000 and 45) off a virgin area last cuppla weeks and i had a qed, took about 2 days to know that i was wasting my time in wa with it,so ya right i know bugger all.....
Im upfront,so now tell us how the qed is “approaching 7000 performance” reg,as you state?

In the last two days James Beatty and I picked out just under two ounces in an area previously done over by 4500's and SDC's using our QEDs. Both our units are updated with the latest in GB and mode mods. James used the Elite 18" coil while I used the 11" Elite.
It's dead easy for barely literate knockers to have their digs, for whatever reason, but we have seen the 'proof of the pudding'.
