There is an 8mm hole on each endcap of the towbar frame. I have a long shank bolt fixed to the mudflap frame on the LHS that just sits in the towbar frame hole and the RHS long shank bolt is the one that I just undo to take the whole thing off. 30 second job to either put it on or take it off. :Y:

How goes the 490 out in the field m8?

Yeah good redfin, just did a week out in the pilbara,,its goin ok,another tank would be good,135 is not alot if ya need to go a cuppla weeks, reckon 200-250 all up( tank under car to) is more like it.
We carted 3-25ltr drums along to.
Towing real good on the dirt roads and tracks, genny hasnt been started, vans charging everything and fridge-freezers using a bit of power, new seals and the pressure fan on no dust inside at all,few more tweaks here and there but pretty happy with it....

Well redfin we like it but if i was to buy new which is big $$$ id prob shop about a bit,so many out there like the lifestyles etc or complete campsites,i think a few have better options, its a good tough simple unit but ya still gotta cook and shower outside, dont think id spend $75-90 for a new 490,not enough on offer for the $$$ i reckon, shite loads of storage though, man i got a mini bar!!! :D
There about to release some new ones (conqueror) and i was talking to a mate the other day and jayco have a cuppla new ones along these lines to he said, ill find the link to the new conquerors....

Very valid point regarding what they and others believe a tent on wheels is worth :awful:
Do as you have done which is purchased at right price and improve on the weak points :Y:
Result is good set up without having to sell your first born :(

Yeah DR there is options about for good offroad units without breakin the bank really, used and a bit of work to get it sorted is a good way to go,some will be 4-5 yrs old and have sat in a city shed still as new if ya shop about, when we grabbed ours i wasnt over the moon with the condition but they dont pop up in wa for a good price that often,i was peed off though,an imaculant one did come up in perth 3 days after we bought ours for a cuppla thou cheaper,it was as new,typical....
These new jaycos i reckon look ok if they hold togethor on outback roads,$36k new, half of what alot of these hybrid units are new, gotta be worth a look......

Had to fork out for a new fridge also, our waco 80 was just to wide for the slide, was gonna make a frame so it sits above but then the frame might have clearance issues on the support railes inside so got a evakool 89 ltr, dualzone, wanted to put an engel 80 in but the plugs are on the front of them now, just wouldnt work.
Fridge was factory direct,$999 plus $130 freight, they had 3 left, there discontinuing this big one, cheap but made in china for them, they said made overseas, have one of there old plastic fridges that must be 15-16 yrs old now now and runs like a champ, bit iffy on this one, they told me has a danfoss compressor so time will tell, lotsa room, like the 2 doors and not opening the freezer door to get to your other stuff.
Few little tweaks on camper but seems sorted now,did 4 nights in it last week, quite happy, boss is over the moon, loves her new little bush home.....

Don't worry about the Danfos / Secop Compressors because they are the best in the business and have been making them since 1951, The BD model compressors found in all Danfos powered 4x4 fridges have been in production since 1977, In 1989 that had made over 100 Million and in 1997 they had made over 150,000,000 and by 2001 they had made over 200,000,000. So you have a hellava Fridge there,

Good luck well done on the nice work.

That's an amazing setup, it looks like a good solid trailer when it's folded down and then it turns in to a house on wheels when it all unfolds, It's the best one on the market world wide,

I have sort of lost hope in finding anything close to that type of setup, All I can find here is Paved Road caravans with less than 240kg payloads or those Teardrop Trailers with that Rubber Band suspension, Even Trailer manufacturers over here won't fit me a proper Axle with 15 or 16" wheels and the only way round it is to buy a Builders type Trailer and then build upon it's chassis, :( 8.( 8.(

No different model again GC Only been out for a short while . With a supposed ATM of 1.8 tonne slipper suspensions pretty iffy to carry that load. This was what instigated call to dealer and he confirmed my belief without hesitation.
Given most who buy a toy hauler you could presume are not going to stick to the bitumen, doesn't show much thought in design. As dealer stated, good concept but needs to be taken back to the drawing board

Sorry RR and DR been out of service,in for supplies today, must be something descent you can buy over there RR.....
Shame they dont offer that in the outback style DR,handy setup.....

This is about the only Off Road Trailer I can find over here and it works out to be around $27,000.

It is the only one I can find with proper springs and ground clearance with 15"+ Wheels,

Well it don't look to off road RR Maybe mild off road over there compared to Oz :D :D
Absolute dick of an idea regarding the spare mounting? You would do either damage to the rig or yourself taking that on and off?

Yep I agree, It's fine for a woodland drive or a run up the beach but beyond that I would not expect them to go the distance,
