Ruby Hill - Bingara

Hi all,

My family and I will be heading to Bingara next week. As a kid I spent alot of time on Ruby Hill scratching around. Taking my kids to experience the same. Just wondering if anyone knows what the pickings are like there still? We used to get a fair bit of garnet and saphires, I think we used to get saphire there. Also what is the Whitlow Rd site like, don't think I have ever been there.

The pickings around ruby hill are still the same, not sure about sapphires there though. Most of the garnets we find there are sub 5mm with the occasional larger specimen. Dont know about the Whitlow Rd site. Just a heads up most of the creeks are dry up there but the river is in flood because they are releasing huge amounts of water from Copeton.

Enjoy yourselves but do not do what I did the first time and drive to the top of the volcanic plug 8)
took me a long time to get down safely .
