Thinking of heading up to Barrington on the weekend to go camping and go for a look.
Anyone got a good starting place for me to start scouting around at?
Are the gems found in recent gravels or wash higher up than the current waterways. Probably both if like the Oberon area.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Can someone please send me a map of creeks in barrington tops area to find saphires so I am not running around mental, I am not wanting to wast time.

Thank you.

I be going there in two weeks I let you know how I go. The old ruby mine which James Packed owned is closed the road has many large trees over the road so no one goes there. Been there months ago. I will go to The north site this time. Also most of the area has lease on. It is also a national park. Can only fossick in state forest with a licence which I got. Cheers David

Hey guys. Does anyone know any recent spots around barrington for fossiking sapphire? Maps are outdated. Many thanks

There's plenty of info here on PA about the area - did you try using the Search function? And what do "recent spots" and "maps are outdated" even mean? The areas where gemstones occur haven't been shifted! Check out this link:

Here's a post from a very knowledgeable member making it clear that all stones from the area are pretty tiny:

Pat Hogan: What is not reported is that the gems are mainly sub 3mm size and no large gems have ever been recorded.
