I am from Seattle Washington (USA) and my brother and I are planning a visit to your fine country Feb 14 2019. We have experience in panning for gold, brother has a claim in California. We are looking to book a couple day trip looking for gold. Can anybody recommend a guide service or tour group, we would like to use metal detectors. We will be in the Melbourne area as well as the Traralgon area

For a first time visit best bet is to come up to Eldorado to the north of Melbourne and prospect anywhere along Reedy Creek, It is fine gold but after the flood a few weeks back there is good gold everywhere. Don't bother with tour groups unless you want to go detecting. For alluvial you don't need them. Drop us a call and I can help as I live in the area. Bloke finished up after two months there with something around a Kg.

Welcome to PA JohnG48,

Good luck with your search for gold - and I hope the weather is kind to you. It can get really hot here in mid-February!
Leaving a Seattle winter for summer here might be a bit of a shock to the system, mate!

Best wishes,
Megsy

Hi John welcome! Hope you like hot weather because lately most of Aus is copping bit of a heat wave. Normally hot temps linger around for a few days, but this heat has turned into weeks. 113 Fahrenheit is forecast for alot of southern Aus and I'm sure it's hotter in outback regions. :sunny: :fire:

Hope you bring some cool weather with you!

I am from Germany and planning to go to Australia to detect for Gold. When is the best time of year for detecting for Gold?

Welcome! Looks like you are coming up my way... I'm in Bendigo. Good luck with your prospecting! :)
