Hi guys,

I am going to be staying at dalgetty over the Christmas period. I was going to get a prospectors permit but notice that it only applies to state forests. The areas I was looking at (along the snowy river and around jindabyne - not in the national parks) are not classified as state forests. I contacted the council and they said they didn't believe I needed any permission for small scale fossicking (unless it's on private land in which case I need the owners permission). Is this correct? They really didn't seem to know much about it.

Also in terms of ownership if we find anything in the river when panning who does it belong to?

Thanks heatho, I have read that guide before and parts of the legislation but it can be a little confusing. I just wanted to make sure that we wouldn't be fined or have anything we manage to find taken away. :)
