Yep, it's starting to clean up a bit, though the iron buckle must have been leaning against it on one side - don't think the rust will come off.

Took a few hours this arvo to see if I could pull a few more targets from nail infested ground around an old ruin. Was a bit of a bust last time around, so a bit of scouting around the whole area was in order to try and locate some isolated targets. First couple of hours was pretty boring with tarp eyelets the order of the day, still a positive sign that some targets were still out there.

Later in the arvo the first decent target was the aluminium 1977-1978 dog tag, followed by the much more collectable 1919-1920 dog tag and lipstick tube. The only coins by that stage were 2x5c coins and a lone 20c from the middle of the access track. Feeling a bit let down from not finding any predecs, I headed back to the car swinging the Deus over the graded winrow where I managed one last half decent target. Yes it was a coin, though hard to tell which one considering you couldn't make out either face, plus it was quite bent up. In the end the size gave it away, turned out to be the worst looking florin I have ever found (1952) - yay! Chalk that one up to sheer persistence.

Has been too long since my last detect, have been a bit down in the dumps lately, though managed to extract myself from the lounge to the car for couple hours of detecting. The coins are dirt fresh and was happy to see a few goldies throughout the night. Predecs were extremely thin on the ground (or under the ground), with only 1952 & 190? pennies, and a lonely 1951 sixpence.

Will try and keep the ball rolling with some more hunts hopefully, wish me luck.

Nice one! The bike bell brings back memories and I really like the toy gun handle. I also get tired and miserable from time to time and get stuck on the couch doing nothing good. Sunshine and a few treasures is a pretty good medicine. Hope it worked for you :Y:

Forgot to mention last night was the maiden run for the bargain $150 9" low frequency coil I picked up a while back. Only downside compared to the White 9" HF coil is that it is damned hard to see in the dark using the wriggle back method for pinpointing, that is until my eyes eventually adjusted to the dark. I just ran it on 18kHz to start off with, and picked out the coin targets by ear - essentially any high conductivity target that offered a stable tone, most of the junk will tend to have variations or inconsistencies in the audio.

If you haven't tried to detect in the dark before using only the audio, it is a real good exercise on getting to know your detector more intimately. If I must use the screen I have the backlight timeout set for 3 seconds so I don't completely ruin my night vision. Just have to be sure you are confident on your recovery methods for the least invasive extractions (ie don't leave a mess).

Not to often that we get to see a lot of coinage from you Goldpick, nice to see ya getting out for a swing.

Yes, it is not often I go after decimal coinage, though easy digging and shallow targets made for a relaxing evening, plus a bit of bonus petrol money for sites further out of town.

Out for another quick detect around a reserve that has never produced a single predec, though still good for the odd goldy. The area is usually cleaned out by other detectorists after events, so anything left is usually intermixed with outher junk, or just plain overlooked. Oldest find was the Australian Naval button, plus a bit of bling and a live 5.56mm blank round. Still happy with $18 for a quick wander over what is quite a large area, though starting to get withdrawal symptoms from the lack of predecs.

Aggggga ! I missed that cheap LF 9" coil! You can spray paint it with glow in the dark paint! :idea:

Slipped out for what was a very long night detect at a very large open park, have picked up some very old coins from here a few years back but not had much luck since. Plan was to take it real slow with a positive frame of mind, and carefully grid a large section of interest. But geez was it a long time between coins - I reckon the tone from the half penny almost gave me a shocked me off my feet after ages of near silence.

At last, one predecimal to get the ball rolling, and slowly followed by the 1963 sixpence, 1877 Victorian penny, and finally the 1953 ramshead shilling. Intermingled with those coins were some BB's and a few relics, though bit of a strange site considering the vast gap in coin dates - have also found an 1850's large penny here previously.

Still, can't complain. A couple of silvers and an older coin made a worthwhile outing, even if it was a freezing 2 degrees.

Had a go at a few places tonight, didn't do too well on the predecs though made up for it in goldies and a silver ring. As you can see I accidently killed the 1950 sixpence with the digger, you get that on the big jobs - at least the worn 1916 sixpence survived. 8.(

Most of my hunting is targeting pre decs too,
but im always more than happy to pull out goldies

What started out as a search for predecs tonight soon turned out to be a session dominated by decimal coinage, probably the best I've done for a long time considering I am usually after relics.

Pretty simple setup on the Deus, just ran the discrim up to around 72 and cherry picked the coins by ear.

Only a few predecs intermingled with the other coins, the first of which was the only silver for the night, a 1946 rams head shilling. Did pretty well on the keys and also picked a couple of old lipstick tubes, all up quite a satisfying outing.
