Wollombi (NSW)

Hi All,

Any assistance in settling a bet would be much appreciated.

Q: Has gold ever been found at Wollombi, NSW?

Google says theres gold in them there hills :Y:

Never heard of Gold coming from Wollombi.
Lot's of Sandstone

Oh yeah - no elephants either (maybe have to drink some Jungle Juice to understand that)

Theres no mines at North lakes Or burpangary or caboolture...Qld ..But theres color in almost all there creeks.:Y:
Go and have a dig and a pan you might be surprised..best way to find out for sure..And you might even find a diamond :Y:

Possibly diamonds or sapphires.
You never know though

Gold can be found in places where it is not expected.

so thats a no from me

Diamonds tend to be like panthers, theres a lot of areas marked for them but very little hard evidence.
Find a creek and pan some gravel , gold can be anywhere but usually its not.

That is awfully true!

In regards to Wollombi, I'm faily familliar with the area, and have never found a spec, the geological surveys concurr:


The running theory is that the whole hunter valley was glacial back in the day, most of the minerals were effectively dredged out to sea, or are too deep underground to have been studied.

Back to what aussiefarmer said:
On the other hand I've found lode gold trapped in magnetite in a creek not far from this map.

So, could someone have found a redeposited lodestone from brecciated rock which was washed into wollombi brook/yango creek or even congewai? Sure! But you might want a little more to go off before you start setting up the sluice haha!

Long story short: I haven't heard of it. And the maps don't think so either

Well, after all this I might still make a trip down the old convict road and pan every creek I find, gold fever is a hell of a thing.
