Help with identifying this stone

Hi guys. Need some help identifying this piece. Unfortunately I don't know where it came from, which I know doesn't help. As you can see it is very orange in colour (outback in origin perhaps?) It was reasonably hard (when cabbed) and my best guess is that it might be a type of jasper? Any thoughts?

Most likely chalcedony.

Looks like Chert . polishes up nice.

Chert, jasper, chalcedony, agate, flint, silcrete, billy are all the same composition, the name varying with the geological position, colour and layering (or not). All are made of chalcedony, which is more accurately called microquartz - so at least three names apply (I would probably call it chert although it might be silcrete if I knew its position - which is also billy)

Thanks for your advice. It does have the characteristics of chert in that, as well as being hard, it breaks to a sharp edge. Cheers.
