Hi all.

Returning to fossicking after a 20 year layoff. Life just gets in the way and haven't had the time. Spent a lot of time in the 80's and 90's tagging along with my father on his sapphire prospecting adventures. Travelled many times up to the Anakie gem fields with good success but it is such a long way. Have also tried the area around Sapphire Bend and Retreat river with moderate success back then. Returned to Sapphire Bend and Retreat river two weekends ago and got the feeling that they have both been dug over and over. Had a bit of a scrape but it looked worked over.

Am planning a trip up to Rubyvale next year but plan to spend this summer digging a few holes and hopefully finding a bit of colour. Just searching for a few hints on local area's within 2-3 hours of Sydney. Would appreciate any advice.

Welcome back Peter

Native Dog Creek (Oberon) and Grabben Gullen would be the others accessible within a couple of hours from Sydney. Nundle and the New England i class as long weekender destinations.
