Yes,that is the best kind of ground I reckon, the old and the new

The Australian Commonwealth pennies are a real winner + silvers

Nice :Y:

Cheers fellas, Sorry Kid, I'm next for the Sov, onya for suggesteing that Art, lol. :Y: I need Paul Marr to pop in and tell me I'll never get a sov, whenever he stirs me up about not finding gold you can be sure gold is on the way.

Might try that SS, there's no real trick to it though, my settings are the same but my swing speed is slowed right down and really double checking false high tones, any target that hits steadyish numbers I dig. :Y:

Little tiny 2" swings foreword and back and left and right over a jumpy signal can sometimes narrow it down.

No shortage on variety from that site Heatho, could be plenty more surprises laying in wait for you yet. As for a full/half sovereign, I think it will most likely happen when you least expect it. ;)

Dear Mr Heatho, Let's try a different tact. ]:D

I think your being modest when you say "there's no real trick to it though". ;) Sure anyone can switch on a nox, perform a noise cancel and ground balance, start swinging and find targets. But, the trick, is to find quality targets, consistently, in all ground conditions and site types, with the best target to junk ratio possible.

Now i'm no slouch when it comes to hunting, i can match it with the best, but there's always that next level i seem to need to get to. :p I have a handfull of sites i've visited numerous times, that i just can't seem to find targets at. Good ol logic tells me, that, with the huge amount of human generated junk targets, accumulated over a vast amount of years, there just has to be good targets dropped as well. :)

Well i want them  :D

So, here is my opportunity to learn how to detect these sites from a junk site specialist  Now, i'm sure there is no real trick to it, but, i'm left wondering if my idea of a slow swing speed is the same as yours ? Are our methods for checking false high tones the same ? and if not what's the best method. Are our interpretations of "Steadyish" numbers the same?

The best way for me to verify this is to watch the master at work. 8) So please, please, please would you do a video of your junk site hunt just for little ol squirrel, so that i might be able to pick up a tip (or is that a trick) or two. :Y:

I await your favourable response.

Regards, SS.

but but ..............i need two now

one to cover the fuel money i have been burning in the pursuit 8)

and agree whole hearted with swinging slooooooow and dig everything that teases you, leave no target a mystery

i am sure Heath will agree it is all about learning and understanding your machine and having a good memory, good ears and most important "lots of coil time" brings results :Y: :Y:

That's pretty much right there Kid, lot's of practice.

I can probably do a vid soon but it will probably not really show anything that's worthwhile to detecting sites like this. I tried this site with the CTX and gave up after a couple of hours of just finding junk. Then when I started there again recently I nearly gave up but then I found a penny and thought that there's gotta be more. So I just slowed right down and started checking signals better. It's slow going because instead of just doing overlapping swings I'm swinging over the same area 5 or 6 times to check the false highs, they are erratic and aren't the same on each swing, only the solid repeatable targets are being dug. This site is different to most around here, there's lots of ferrous trash, most other sites I do here it's modern non-ferrous trash I'm working in.

Last 2 hunts there I've dug plenty of trash but there are good targets there as well, if I turn on all metal mode you should here all the signals in the ground, this is why the CTX wasn't so good there, the recovery speed is no where near as fast as the Nox. I've done well with the CTX in trashy sites and if I had come back to this site with it I probably would have started finding good coins but it was very hard work listeneing to what was going on under the coil. It's hard work listening with the Nox at this site too, listening fatigue sets in after a couple of hours and you feel mentally drained from all the target tones, that's the biggest problem.

Keep at it SS, just need to understand what the detector is saying to you, it will come, and every site is different too. :Y:

Wally and myself are heading there this morning, will be keen to see what comes out, Wally will probably get my sovereign, lol.

Great hunting heatho, I dont know about you guys but If the target is deep, I like to go 90% and square it up just like gold nuggets, even more important in coin detecting in my opinion.

Cheers

i do 360's in 90 increments , bit like round and round the garden, like a ...................

i have found strapping the 6in on cuts crap fatigue , but you cover no where near the area, but in saying that , pulling coins from spots that previously wasn't possible makes up for lack of coverage

The 10x5 is great for high trash as well but this site is extra bad trash, even the small coil was hard to use there, just one of those types of sites where any detector will struggle, even the Nox stuggles a bit there too. Though it is still quite detectable with the 11 inch coil on the Nox.

Todays effort with Wally, he did a bit better than I did, I started gridding for a while at first and did ok, then went for a wander over to see how he was going and thought hmmm better go for a random wander to pick up the pace on some silvers, which proved to we just the trick to get a better haul. Have still hardly dented this site, will keep me busy for a while I reckon, it's the type of site that I reckon the Nox was built for.

All in all was a good hunt for both of us. It's a very busy spot though with quite a few people stopping for a chat.

That ground is a dream with all of the last 100 years covered

Heatho, the similarity between my hunt his week and this one is very familiar indeed, you will notice it after I post tomorrow

I bet that you are happy finding those Commonwealth Australian pennies with the hope of finding a 1930 alive

I am a little surprised that Sydney still has so many good large places to detect left lucky you :)

Looking forward to what you will post next from this ground.

Happy days
