I like prospecting in winter (even though I have not been out this winter, for a couple of reasons.)
Anyway, I picked up this fleece pack from Hunters Element.
It has the appropriately named warm arse trousers, a fleece jumper that has a long tail, two fleece t-shirts, and a beanie. The combination of high cut pants and long tail on the jumper means that the combination does not have gaps that let the cold in when you sit down or bend over.
This stuff is designed to be worn as a middle layer in extreme conditions. I reckon its perfect for sitting around the campfire, remembering it is not fireproof fleece, which is a specialist product.
There are good details - the trousers have a waterproof lining in the arse so you can sit down without getting a wet arse. The jacket has chest pockets that are also lined with waterproof lining to keep your phone or other stuff from getting wet. This happened to me once on the Copperhania, but luckily work stumped up for a new I-Phone.
The fleece might be too warm to work in, except under the waders in very extreme conditions.
There is a size guide at the site, and I found the size I bought to be generous.
Im sitting around in the trousers and jumper as warm as toast, and am looking forward to the next trip to Tuena or somewhere similar.
We have had three -9 mornings in Goulburn this week, and I have benefited from some good thermals currently on half price sale at BCF, and the thermals layered with this fleece with a jacket over the top will be unbeatable in bad conditions.
Far superior to the normal fleecy trackie dacks.
