Lots of others as well but the Thylacine is the most interesting, assuming that's what it's meant to be.

Spectacular looking spot too, where the rock escarpment meets the floodplains....

This creature is alive today and lives in Madagascar. Its specialises in hunting lemurs. It is called a Fossa and is endangered. Reminds me alot of a Tassie Tiger. Dont know if they would be close enough to help clone ? Sorry re old thread.https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/img/member-images/10082/1528633828_5d61eb45a3e624c56cc70195b6f48fc4.jpg

Awesome thread, would be nice to think some of these creatures survived in remote pockets of the bush. Years ago I found a few "coprolites" fossilized Diprotodon turds! I have been startled by a few roos that seemed to tower above me when they were standing up tall but imagine if Procoptodons still got around up to 3m tall.

There is a somewhat recent discovery of a 2.5m-250kg carnivorous duck, nicknamed the 'Demon Duck of Doom'

Wouldn't like to meet one of those Demon-Duck things out in the bush AussieChris.
"Bullockornis planei, nicknamed the Demon-Duck of Doom or Thunderbird, is an extinct flightless bird that lived in the Middle Miocene, approximately 15 million years ago, in what is now Australia. Bullockornis stood approximately 2.5 metres tall."

Yes, very much like that....but WTF is that hairy faced thing on the left ? Now that's scary ;)

Don't worry, it isn't me :D

Apparently it was the biggest marsupial carnivore that ever lived and was widely spread across the continent. An aboriginal rock painting somewhere supposedly shows a hunter either attacking one with his spear or trying to fend it off from attacking him.

Freaky to think that the odd one may be still roaming the bush

Yes, get bones in Victoria and elsewhere. The extinct sabre-toothed marsupial Thylacosmilus (of South America) was a similar size.

The giant flightless New Zealand Moa grew to 3.6 m high - having been chased by an angry ostrich (up to 2.7 m) I would not want to meet one.
