I wonder if anyone still collects and processes clay rather than go for the sand a gravelly alluvial ? And if so how do the finds compare for the extra work involved ?

Needs special conditions for much gold to concentrate in clay (although it can). It concentrates in coarser wash because of its high specific gravity (harder to move gold in a stream at sites where clay collects, as low velocity). So better odds in coarse material.....

Yep, still gotta scrape the lay layer at least.
Depends on where the clay has built up and whether it shows as holding colour as to how much effort/time to put it.
Like gravel, clay that has had small rocks and gravel compressed into it is always worth a look. :D

Where I dig, the best gold is usually sitting on top of a layor of orange clay. You must puddle it first or risk losing good gold

All the gold at my spot is only in the clay..Gold is where you find it...so they say :Y:
Good luck :Y: :D
