Planning on making the trip up to Mooralla, and was interested in some details of the camping there. The internet gave up this bit of wisdom https://toiletmap.gov.au/toilet/19773

Which looks like it is the place where the campground is, but not what other amenities are available(eg water)

also is it busy up there this time of year? And can crystals be speced on the surface?

Anyone been there recently?

Thanks

James

haven't been there recently but there's only a dunny onsite as for water there's Rocklands dam but you'll have to drive to it unless your up for about a 15km walk nice fish in there too.

as for digging the first 1m down is always the hardest like concrete if sinking a new shaft by hand however ive heard there are still some large 4m by 5m deep holes open so get in them much easier than digging your own but watch the ground this time of year as it cracks so if your in a hole watch the walls for cracks pull the whole wall out with a crow bar if you have to to make it safer so it won't all of a sudden fall on you while working.

the creek crossing should be fine this time of year if your going in a 2wheel drive if you have a 4x4 easy access.

you'll find crystals on the surface but you'll find much better unchipped ones and loads more if you jump in a old hole

Hi All,

Just back from Mooralla, where we camped for a couple of nights. We found a bunch of Smokey Quartz crystals and a few clear ones too.

Thats the best one, though small its almost perfect and the edges and points are very sharp.

Thats our haul for a day of digging. We found most of these a little bit less than 20cm below the ground, we basically followed a seam of decomposing ryolite, which looks like a red clayish meterial.

The campsite was good, but there were so many European wasps! Literally hundreds, which put a bit of a downer on things.

Another bloke who was there had dug a big hole, several meters deep and several accross. He kept to himself, but came round later to show us the massive crystal he found. Was about size of a golf ball but perfectly shaped and very clear.

Anyway Its worth a trip if your keen!

James
