Any clues?

About 12 months ago I had a bloke with a dozer push a dam into my bottom paddock and where this thing come from had about 2feet of earth taken of the top. Yesterday I was playing around with my new detector, gm1000, and found this at a depth of around 6 inches. Wouldn't have a clue what it is but I would hazard a guess that it has been there for a while. It looks like some sort of cap to something. Can anybody shed some light on what it is? It is about 1 inch diameter.

Could be anything mate.....Depending on the age of the property? Anything around 1800s? Cap off a Powder Flask?

There were people around here about the late 1800's so maybe it is from that time. There was a lot of logging happening around here at that time.

Reminds me of the cap to your water meter, though those are always plastic from what I've seen

No water meters around here we survive on bore and rain water.

Could be part of an old watch chassis, have picked up, detected a few bits similar to your's.

The other thing I was thinking was a cap off an old Oil Canister....

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd like to believe it's the top of a powder flask rather than a piece of junk, it'll spur me on to look for more.
