After Stage 3

(From Dakar press) :Y: 10:09 Price stays calm and finishes strongly
Terrific Toby Price already has the experience of a triumph on the Dakar and knows that the rally is long. After two cautious days, the astute Australian has moved up a gear today, without taking any risks. He has finished third on the stage, 328 behind his English team-mate and moves upwards in the general standings.

4th Toby Price + 7:28

21st Rodney Faggotter + 33:42

77th Scott Britnell + 3:15:22

Cheers David

Stage 4

(Dakar. Press) 09:28 Price and Sunderland lose ground
No single day is like another on this Dakar, because today it is the turn of Toby Price and Sam Sunderland to lose time. They have reached CP2 more than 3 minutes behind the stage leader, and the gap could increase by the time they finish the special.

Toby's team mate

KTM rider Sunderland had to be evacuated by helicopter after suffering an accident on Tuesday's 330km San Juan de Marcona test, having held a lead of over four minutes at the head of the overall standings with two wins in the opening three stages of the rally.

The Briton sustained a back injury in the crash that was severe enough for doctors to rule out his continued participation in the event.

End of Stage 4 overall

6th Toby Price + 10:14 (15th in the stage, dropped over 13 mins, but only 3 mins in overall standings so others had problems)

18th Rodney Faggotter + 40:33 (moving up the ladder)

111th Scott Britnell + 7:17:12 ( very tough day at the office )

Cheers David

Stage 5

(Dakar press) 10:16 Barreda steals the show
Joan Barreda has claimed stage 5 in style. The winner of stage 2 spent the entire stage increasing the difference to the rest of the field and finished with over 10 minutes to spare over Matthias Walkner. Kevin Benavides lost 1220, while Yamaha's Adrien Van Beveren and Xavier de Soultrait came in over 14 minutes back!

10:44 Mo fourth
Antoine Mo has good reason to be happy today. The KTM rider was fourth at the finish, 13 minutes behind the winner. Toby Price was two minutes slower, and we are now waiting for Ricky Brabec.

End of Stage 5 overall

6th Toby Price + 10:39 (only 25 seconds lost to the leader for the stage) :Y:

17th Rodney Faggotter + 56:44 (moved up one) :Y:

79th Scott Britnell + 9:03:08 ( well done, up 32 places ) :Y:

Cheers David

Update- Dakar press, end of Stage 5

06:10 The race is still wide open
The motorcycle category continues to feature big changes every day. Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren holds a slim one-minute margin in the general classification and will have to dig deep to defend his lead. Joan Barreda, Toby Price and Pablo Quintanilla have no choice but to throw caution to the wind to inch closer to Van Beveren, while Kevin Benavides and Matthias Walkner will pounce on the slightest mistake to seize the lead.

05:50 A change of scenery
The Dakar moves from Peru to Bolivia. Fast courses will take the place of the fields of dunes, while the Bolivian Highlands will give competitors something more to worry about: altitude. This daunting stage, which features a 313 km special and a 447 km liaison, comes right before the rest day.

Cheers David

Stage 6

Dakar press

06:52 Stage modification
The first part of the special, with a passage at 4,700 metres altitude, has been cancelled for the bikes. The competitors are currently on the link stage that will take them to the second part of the special, which Joan Barreda will kick off at 16.30 GMT. The stage has not been changed for the cars, so Stphane Peterhansel will get things started at 13.30 GMT.

14:06 Price takes the lead
Toby Price has taken the lead in the special at WP8. However, the stage is far from over, because the Australian is only six seconds ahead of his team-mate Antoine Meo and 15 seconds in front of the Honda ridden by Kevin Benavides.

14:57 Antoine Meo wins stage 6!
After his fine fourth place yesterday, Antoine Meo has taken advantage of the rallys arrival in Bolivia and its fast tracks to pick up his first success in 2018. The Frenchman has won by a whisker, just 30 seconds ahead of his team-mate Toby Price 8) and the new general standings leader Kevin Benavides.

End of Stage 6 overall

5th Toby Price + 9:39 (Just missed the stage win) :Y:

18th Rodney Faggotter + 1:04:45 :Y:

77th Scott Britnell + 10:05:11 :Y:

Cheers David

Go toby go. Please stay safe mate. Hope to see all the comps staying safe. Hey Toby, Going up?

After a well deserved rest day and more than 3000km done

Stage 7

Dakar press

07:50 A 300 km liaison
Toby Price and Joan Barreda have finished the liaison that preceded today's special. It was a good warm-up for the bikers, who left the bivouac at 4 am and are set to tackle a 425 km special.

08:11 Mo kicks off the motorcycle special
Antoine Mo started today's special on time. The KTM rider set off three minutes ahead of teammate Toby Price and six ahead of overall leader Kevin Benavides. Keep an eye on Adrien Van Beveren, Joan Barreda and Matthias Walkner, who will be starting a bit later.

09:04 Barreda off to a flying start
The rest day has clearly energised Joan Barreda. The Spaniard has a knack for super-fast starts and blasted through CP1 with no less than 47 seconds over Matthias Walkner and almost one minute over teammate Kevin Benavides. Antoine Meo, opening the road today, is already losing three minutes.

13:00 All hell breaks loose
Today's long special is littered with cars and motorcycles stuck in the mud. The rain has added an extra layer of difficulty to the course. Orlando Terranova, Mikko Hirvonen and Yazeed Al-Rajhi are currently at a standstill, probably after getting stuck!

14:11 Joan Barreda takes the spoils in Uyuni
What a ride by Joan Barreda! Although the Spaniard eased up a bit near the end of the special, it was enough to beat Adrien Van Beveren by 2'51' and his HRC teammate Kevin Benavides by 8'02'!

End of Stage 7 overall

5th Toby Price + 13:23 (4th on the stage, hard to beat the Honda's)

23th Rodney Faggotter + 1:56:18

77th Scott Britnell + 14:12:49

Cheers David

Stage 8

Dakar press

04:40 Still up in the air
With less than 5 minutes separating Adrien van Beveren, Kevin Benavides and Joan Barreda in the general classification, the name of the winner in Crdoba is anyone's guess. Furthermore, while the leading trio will have to play it safe on the way to Tupiza, riders such as Matthias Walkner, Toby Price and Xavier de Soultrait are willing to throw caution to the wind to move up the classification.

04:20 A high-stakes battle
Stage 8, the longest of the rally at 498 km of racing, is the second part of a marathon stage that left the competitors without service at the bivouac last night. Challenges such as high dunes located at 3,500 metres above sea level make clean driving essential.

07:20 Meo takes the lead
After winning the stage before the rest day, Antoine Meo struggled to open the road yesterday. The Frenchman started today's stage behind the favourites and looks set to do something nice. The official KTM rider clocked the best time at 50 km, ten seconds ahead of teammate Toby Price. Meanwhile, Yamaha's Adrien Van Beveren and Xavier de Soultrait are having trouble finding their pace and are losing 2'30'.

07:39 Barreda falling out of contention
Joan Barreda is running out of steam after a good start. The Honda rider is probably being hampered by his wounded knee and is losing 10'36' to Antoine Meo at CP2.

06:42 Favourites in the race
Adrien Van Beveren, Kevin Benavides, Toby Price, Matthias Walkner and Xavier de Soultrait have also started today's special, a 500 km trek that has the potential to turn the race on its head. The top riders in the motorcycle classification are separated by ultra-thin margins.

08:17 Meo still going fast
Antoine Meo is still going strong. The Frenchman posted the best time at CP2, 40 seconds ahead of teammate Toby Price. Ricky Brabec is also on a good day, 1'49' back. Overall leader Adrien Van Beveren, on the other hand, is losing 6'31'

09:23 Meo under pressure
Antoine Meo is still in the lead at the refuelling point at CP3. However, the former enduro biker's advantage has melted to just 33 seconds over an amazing Ricky Brabec. Toby Price is playing it smart at 1'40', while Matthias Walkner and Kevin Benavides are over four minutes back. Adrien Van Beveren is not as strong as yesterday and is losing 7'31'.

11:40 10 seconds between Brabec and Meo
The motorcycle stage is going to go down to the wire. We are 448 km into the special and the difference between Ricky Brabec and Antoine Meo is a puny at 10 seconds. Toby Price is still a rock-solid third, but Adrien Van Beveren (+8'43') and Joan Barreda (+11'43') are far off the pace.

12:32 Meo wins the stage!
Antoine Meo capped an impressive performance with a last-minute surge to overtake Ricky Brabec and win the special. The Frenchman beat the American by 108 to claim his second stage in three days, with Toby Price in third place at 245.

Very good day for all the Aussies, Toby is well place for stage 9, leaving 3rd and he is riding strong. :Y:

End of Stage 8 overall

4th Toby Price + 7:35 :Y:

22th Rodney Faggotter + 2:19:31 (up one) :Y:

74th Scott Britnell + 16:15:12 (up three) :Y:

Cheers David

Update Dakar press, 8 hours before the stage was to start.

05:33 Stage 9 cancelled
The organisers of the Dakar have no choice but to cancel stage 9, which was supposed to take place between Tupiza and Salta on Monday. Weather conditions in the area in the last few days are preventing assistance crews from refurbishing race vehicles for tomorrow's stage after the demanding marathon stage. The field of the Dakar will therefore head to the Salta bivouac by road. The rally will resume with stage 10 from Salta to Beln.

Stage 9

Stage 10

Dakar press

08:22 No margin for error
With 22 seconds between Adrien Van Beveren and Kevin Benavides in the general standings, the bike race is a long way from being won, all the more so given that Matthias Walkner and Toby Price are in with a chance as well as Joan Barreda, who will no doubt be on the attack today. Antoine Meo, Sundays winner, will be hoping to obtain a hat-rick with another stage victory, even if he has to open the way.

11:12 Brabec gets lost again!
Ricky Brabec is obviously not fully awake this morning. The American has strayed from the right track again after 64 km of the special, continuing for more than 3 km before realising his mistake. The official Honda rider is set to lose a lot of time today.

11:39 Benavides opens a gap
Kevin Benavides is maintaining a very high pace on the start of this special and is continuing to increase his lead over his pursuers after almost one hundred kilometres. The Argentinean now leads his team-mate Joan Barreda by 247 and Toby Price by 315. Adrien Van Beveren has so far lost 5 minutes and the head of the general standings

11:59 Benavides still leads at CP1
Kevin Benavides is not letting up. The Honda rider still boasts a fine lead over his rivals, even if Toby Price is now keeping pace with him, with a gap that has stabilised at 306. Joan Barreda is 341 behind and Matthias Walkner trails by 532. Adrien Van Beveren is the major loser so far, with a deficit of 628, as is Antoine Meo, 740 behind the stage leader.

13:38 Benavides is quickest at ASS1
For the moment, Kevin Benavides is putting in a faultless performance and has completed the first half of the special with the best time. Toby Price still lies just over three minutes behind, whilst Adrien Van Beveren is resisting 6 minutes back. As for Joan Barreda, he continues to lose ground, 929 behind the stage leader.

   Then this happened

14:52 Meo, Price and Benavides get it wrong
Antoine Meo, Toby Price and Kevin Benavides have started the second part of the special, in which navigation between river beds has pride of place. The three men are following one another and have taken the wrong track. They are currently three kilometres from the correct route.

15:45
All the lost riders have now turned back in towards the start of the special! They have lost a huge amount of time. Adrien Van Beveren and Matthias Walkner are likely to be the only riders in the reckoning for victory in the general standings this evening.

16:37 Price is 50 minutes behind!
The first major players in the bike category who got lost earlier in a river bed parallel to the correct track have arrived at WP7. They have paid a hefty price for their mistake: Toby Price is the first through, 4945 behind Adrien Van Beveren!

17:18 Van Beveren exits the rally
Adrien Van Beveren has been evacuated by the medical teams helicopter. The general standings leader has broken his right collar bone and has also injured his thorax and his spine. His injuries are too severe to be able to complete the remaining 3 km of the special and continue his dream of overall triumph on the Dakar...

17:38 Price loses 49 minutes
Lost like five other leading riders, Toby Price has also most certainly lost any hope of a second victory on the Dakar in the river beds around Beln. The Australian finished the special 4917 behind his team-mate Matthias Walkner. Ricky Brabec finished 5613 behind the winner whereas Antoine Meo, victorious yesterday, came in one hour later!

17:43 Walkner wins the stage and leads the general standings
Matthias Walkner has won the stage 10 on the Dakar 2018. The Austrian has taken advantage of the navigation error made my most of his rivals on the second part of the special as well as Adrien Van Beverens severe fall 3 kilometres from the finish to win with a lead of 11 minutes over Pablo Quintanilla. The Austrian is also the new rally leader, 39 minutes in front of Joan Barreda!

End of Stage 10 overall

5th Toby Price + 50:18 (19th on the stage, still top five) :Y:

20th Rodney Faggotter + 2:51:04 (13th on the stage) :Y:

68th Scott Britnell + 18:25:33 (54th on the stage) :Y:

Cheers David
