hi ive been gold prospecting around these areas no real great finds.there
is lots of granite and quartz in the area.
has anyone else tried these areas

G'day kicker welcome to PA personally I can't help you but you could try the search icon there's heaps of info. I see your looking for a detector but not wanting to spend big bucks so tell us your limit so people can offer suggestions.

try trove for old mining reports on the area. dolly some quartz you think gold is in pan it off see what you get.


born 150 years too late and missed all the gold rushers

You are right on the edge of the area with most potential (Borung would be the northern limit). If every rock underfoot is granite you are almost certainly in the wrong place - stick to areas that have old sedimentary or metamorphic rock (shale, sandstone, slate, schist). Gold is almost non-existent in central Victorian granite.

As goldierocks says, get a little away from the heat source (granite) and back into the faulted metamorphics.
