quartz intruded ironstone (indicator junction)......or......magma enclosed quartz... :p ]:D

I'm gonna go with A/, and relinquish the thought of igneous heritage...more Sedimentary

It's certainly been washed and bashed about a distance by the look...

Does it set the detector off?...looks good for color imo.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies, I put the detector over it and we got a really good signal around the quarts line all the way around the rock.
so do I break it or keep it?

If it was ALL the way around, you either have a large single piece within, or, it is just responding to the ironstone...

If you like the 'look' of the ore as it sits....leave it, or go back out and find a replacement/duplicate...

Then to find if you actually have Gold, there is only one way....(well,...you 'could' do a Specific Gravity test...or even dissolve with acid, but i know which is most FUN!!!) ]:D

Hi GypsyGold,

My curiosity got the better of me and now the rock is gone lol,

we broke it and can see lots of color in the rock so we are going to dolly it and pan it off and see how much is in there.

I think the rock was nice but gold is much nicer lol. :D

Here is a pic of the inside.

thanks for your help

WAHOOOOO!!! and good luck... :Y:

... now waiting for the final pics/result

That reminds me, i got three trays need doing the same thing....(haven't tested with detector lol)

My philosophy on species... if ya can't see the gold on the outside, it's a goner...

If the specie is a piece of art in itself and gold veins popping out....i generally keep it.

Been a while since i found a decent one though..

Goodonya!!! :Y:

Hi Kazzgem, you definitely have iron oxide that has formed in the gap around a quartz vein. All the big iron nodules and bubbly material like you have actually forms at room/warm wet climate temperatures. Leaching/precipitation etc.

Just detect a few pieces separately they will all give a signal.
Save time and dolly a couple small pieces of the quartz to confirm/discount gold.

Hi all, thanks for your help and to be honest, I put it aside and forgot about it  I will dolly it over the weekend and let you all know what I find.

Hi Kazzgem

Looks like it is a piece of ironstone as other suggested. However that said wish you luck in finding some gold in it.
