I see in the Australian Gemstone Locality list (1933) posted by Joe that sapphires and zircons are recorded from Herberton, in the Atherton Highlands (Qld). Does anyone know more details of this because I cannot find any recent records of them being found there or any specific locality data?

I don't know anything specific but I have heard of it, can't remember from where. It would not be at all surprising if they were there, the Atherton tablelands is a mass of old volcanics.
 
Heres tin on trove, so they probly dumped the saphire out while getting the ore.
