Found this a couple of days ago, thought it was a fake as initially the tiger looks like a sticker and the coin feels lighter than a normal one dollar. Turns out its fair dinkum and maybe worth $15 now!

That's another side of coin collecting...the Mint Limited Edition castings & Box sets....

Grab any Renniks or McDonalds guides and you will find a plethora of 'subject matter' now cast in coins..oh yeah,..and remember the Vit. B3 injection B4 you hit the beach... :p  ]:D

Sounds like it was only available in a packaged presentation - interesting at what point someone needs a dollar desperately enough to break it out...or was it theirs originally i wonder....

Someone would B silly to circulate that B4 they cashed in their collection  there could B5 more there stru
I can't believe you found one B4 me  :p

Renniks list a 'Lunar' coin series with 5x variants, and 3x compositions, from 2007-2011, one of which is a Tiger. The pic is of a 'Gold' (99.99% 1/10th troy Oz) Tiger as 2010 was the Year of the Tiger in Chinese calendars..so your 2012 is not from these...but hey, here's a hint for the next find...

I couldn't find a reference to the one you have in my guide as it's a 2011 issue, and as such can't give you any more info. re; values.. though it is a limited circulation as no $1 coins were minted for 'general circulation' ( as per the link in the linked page above)

That link above also has it listed as one of 15,990...and also has the other 5x listed under 'Animals of the Zoo' series.

looks like the zoo series challenge is on! perhaps a combined effort?! I still havent dug up one of the olympic ring 2 dollar coins which look pretty cool

That's a really great coin find, I'd be stoked to find one. With only 15,990 minted that coin might be worth quite a bit imn the future.
