I mostly run a 34 amphour battery my bilge pulls 16 amps so 2 hours run time which is plenty for me. If i need more ive got a larger battery wired into my patrol but to be honest in between digging pay and setting up 2 hours is heaps
What sort of battery is it , that loading would kill a normal deep cycle battery, the only way you can do that is with a Lifepo

i dont know what you consider to be "normal" but deep cell battery by design are designed exactly to be loaded up and run flat they work well with solar, alternators and fast discharge. what i do is when i buy something new like the 3700gph johnson bilge i take it into a battery supplier they run it with a amp draw clamp and it spits out a report on batteries that suit the application over the power curve.

PDC deep cycle is what your after, PDC-12350 is the exact model i use because it fits in my bucket. i've run this battery for years http://www.power-sonic.com/pdc_deep_cycle_series.php

they do have some additives into cell paste to allow for fast discharge see below data sheet. they can be bought on ebay relatively cheaply.
