I was detecting an old gold field the other day when a group of school kids with their teacher came along. I heard the teacher tell the kids to sit down on some old diggings heaps and have lunch. I ran down and told the female teacher not to stay. There are nests of jumping jack ants all around this area. I showed her a nest and disturbed it to show her how aggressive these ants are. I also told her their bites can be lethal as they have toxins similar to bees. She told the kids to move on and thankfully none of the kids got bitten. I have been bitten a few times over the years the last time it took nearly a month to stop inching I still have a lump on my leg from that episode. Nasty creatures I try to stay away from.
