Saddle Shield?

Hi Guys,
after some help with this one.
Found at an old goldfield coach route hotel site and i think the shield could be a saddle shield but i cannot find anything like it on google.
It is brass,

I often find quite a few odds and ends off buckles etc on those 1800's sites, unfortunately many will never be indentified due to lack of markings, and the sheer number that were produced at the time.

Most end up going into the too hard basket for me, aside from obvious cricket buckle or military parts.

Looks like your first guess - looks like a saddle shield (the back will tell). Found plenty over the years, I always wish they had marking on them as they are cool relics.
