Strong Box ID ?

So.. I'm a grand hoarder of anything old rusty and heavy haha
I wonder!! If anyone has seen one like this before?? I've been trying to track where/when this one was used for years. And thinking quite possibly! you guys might be able to help!

Iron strongbox, copper/brass plug at the back. Its nothing like the fargo railway ones etc. So i've always assumed it may have been stage coach

LOL @ Palmer!!

Hahaha everyone should have a torture chair and cage etc in their office! Its good for productivity. Chair isn't finished yet, have to hand sharpen the steel spikes. only about 500 odd to go

you can see it was hand beaten by a blacksmith , there is no welding on it , even the hinges are riveted on by hand

never seen one but if it has no handles for carrying it was probably built in to the wooden structure in a coach or maybe a post office

sorry i cant date it or add to its history

Thanks Heads! Yeah thats what I thought too. no handles it obviously wasn't meant to be carried around often.

Era - I managed to track down the hinge makers stamp, most the stuff i've found from them is late 1700's early 18's, secretly hoping its one from the escort rock robbery or something to do with some super cool bushrangers hahaha

Cool looking box.
Looks heavy... Lots of big rivets holding the box together but only two pissy ones securing the latch - couple of hits with a chisel & they'd be in

Got any dimensions on the strong box, looks interesting, hope you're still visiting the forum. The Arc welder wasn't in use until the 1930's from memory so the riverts definitely suggest it pre-dates the welder, which supports 1700's reference. I might know a few people who could help with identification, PM me if you like.
