Garrett Ace 250 Information & Questions

I'd say at a glance that it is a bit of off cut aluminium,...Did it ring up with a high tone ding ding ding?

Yeah it was silver highish pitch tone and yes treasureman just testing.

A magnet wont stick to it if it is Aluminium !

It may have had two legs originally

any thoughts on this one for my ten year old son , ease of use ect , weight ?
for coins and relics.

Well that was nice to go back over your thread GP,... from the beggining, and see you get all those finds(including the silvers).

Seems such a long time ago now, still got the Ace stowed away in its box.

I'm never getting rid of mine,... one day it will go up on a wall somewhere,....but that's a long way off yet.

I just used headphones with independent volume control for each earpiece, some cheap RPG units will do the job. I still think the best coil for the Ace was the large DD, much improved depth over the stock concentric coil, and paired with the sniper coil made the Ace a pretty handy little detector. The large concentric made the Ace too nose heavy for my liking.

The trick with the Ace is to use the pinpoint button to scan in "all-metal" for deeper targets, though you need to release it every so often to retune. Not the most practical solution, but it does work picking out deeper coin sized targets.

Just bought my1st ever detector ...Garrett250..single unit...what else do I need..any help would be much appreciated

You need some type of retrieval tool/s, a pouch for your treasure and trash. One with at least 2 pockets so you can keep them separate is handy. You can buy pretty cheap carpenters pouches etc from bunnings. Gloves are handy too.
In your other post you mentioned beach detecting. A sand scoop makes things easier but some use a shovel. A pinpointer makes things much easier but there are not so cheap.

No problem. Happy to help. Headphones are good but not essential. Keeps out the surrounding noises like traffic, the surf or whatever. On a beach you would probably want them as the surf can be pretty loud. Look at youtube and you will see how others go about it. We all develop methods that we prefer.
There is a video here that shows some good retrieval methods for nice lawns. As a beginner it may be best to stay away from manicured lawns until you become confidant that you won't make a mess.
