I spent a couple nights down at Lake Burbury between Queenstown and Derwent Bridge in Southern Tasmania, one camp ground is free and the other is $5 a night with a care taker on site. From the Darwin dam end of the lake you have a short 20 minute drive into the world heritage area, Kelly basin and the old ghost town of Pillinger.

Nice! I love the area. There are also places to camp at the old town of Darwin, but there are no facilities at all.

Great little lake and brings back some pleasant memories of my last trip down there. The Browns were really cooperating on the Fly, and the ranges in the backdrop are spectacular when the sun just rises. Great pics.

Wal.

We camped there recently hoping to see the old Crotty Town ruins as the lake level was so low.
...but it poured rain and the wind blew like the billy-o, the weather was so bad that it even brought down a tree overnight and blocked the road out.
We were working to move the tree, in the rain and sleet, on this fairly isolated dead end road, when low and behold a vehicle pulls up on the other side of the tree. His vehicle could fit through but he kindly stopped on his way back to help us out, we were wet and cold but successful in the end. It turned out that he was fellow prospector, unfortunately we didn't get his name...so thanks again if you are reading this.

Still a very beautiful place to visit no matter the weather!!
