Just thought I'd share with you all my home made tumbler. It was initially a HP laser printer but after gutting it out I just left the paper drive rollers as well as the drive motor. I then simply supplied power to it using an old phone charger. The container is waterproof but I think any cylindrical container will suffice, you just might need to tape where the lid joins to prevent/minimize water leakage. Obviously its only for cleaning the decimals, but with a bit of gravel and some water, it works a treat. Total cost...zip zero zilch bugger-all middle of a donut!!!!! :D

nice use for a buggered printer.. I will keep an eye out for one and give your rippa idea a go.. :)

I saw the simplest tumbler the other day in Cumborah. This old guy (I have to be careful because I'm not too far behind) built it with the most basic bits. He had an old electric motor that looked like about a 1/2 hp driving a 1" shaft by belt. He had a normal 15" car tyre with the usual little ribs inside just slung over the shaft. The 1" shaft running inside the bead of the tyre kept it rotating very slowly.

He said he didn't use abrasive grit he just filled it with stones.

Hi guys n gals
Last week I was driving about and saw a motorised golf cart on the side of the road for the annual council rubbish pickup. So I grabbed it and used the motor, axle and bearings to make a tumbler.
Some of the coins I have found on the beach were far too bad to spend with the green crap all over them, particularly the $1 and $2 coins.
Chucked them in this with a few handfuls of sand and in a couple of hours they were as good as new.
Just thought it might give some of you an idea for a home made one yourself.

It wasn't a buggy, pretty much a hand pull cart, but with a motor and trigger to assist. The trigger was stuffed.
I also can't play golf for S#&T, ha ha.
