You've done pretty well yourself, some ripper hunts with plenty of pre-decs flowing for you.

I had a quick run around the edges of an oval tonight, detecting mainly limited around the bases of trees to see what was dropped over the years. Turns out not a hell of a lot was around, although I managed a 1964 penny, a 2001 Canberra Centenary of Federation 50c (first one of those I've seen), and what at first looked like just an aluminium ring of sorts, turned out to be a 925 silver ring.

Nice one,... that 1964 penny looks like it was only in circulation for a little while(ha).

They have relatively low mintage at 2,000,000, so no doubt some have been hoarded by collectors to complete a set of centenary of federation 50c coins.

Wasn't really worth posting the previous nights finds, very slim pickings aside from this 1919 threepence pulled from about 6" down with the joey coil.

Do you like the joey coil? Would you recommend one on the explorer?

It's good for trashy areas, with better target separation over the 11" Pro coil due to its sheer size, but still offers good coverage. It's not the deepest coil in the world(and you wouldn't expect so), but it is very handy for working around vegetation and tree bases, and close to metal objects that would drive the pro coil nuts. My Joey is the first gen non waterproof coil which Coiltek was recently selling off for a song, it has now been superceded by the 10x5" Treasureseeker coil.

Minelab also sell an 8" coil, plus Excelerator(Kellyco), and Sunray do a variety of smaller coils.

A few interesting finds tonight, the only pre-dec was a 1950's half penny, but an Australian Tramways Employees Association badge made up for that. It is made of bronze and previously had an enamel coating on the face, dated somewhere in the early 1900's (1911-1914?). Followed that up with an old Sheriffs badge - now I just need the gun. Other items include buckles, door knobs, dog tag, lighter, and other assorted junk.

Sheriffs badge looks like it had a good life(imagine the fun), and the RTEA Badge is a little ripper(all coat of armsy n all).Nice finds GP.

I like the tram badge. Not something ya find every day.

Well I thing I may have eclipsed my previous oldest coin with a find tonight. Looks like I may have found a King George Farthing with a hole punched through it, it is very worn, but you can just see the outline of his head, amd the size is correct (23mm). Not sure how much more I should clean it, though I would like to see more detail under the patina.

Other coins include a 1944 rams head shilling, 1927 threepence, 1924 penny, 1957 penny, lesche murdered 1958 penny, and a 1949 penny.

Also found an army webbing buckle, junker ring, and a gold plate Alsation badge.

Upon further inspection of the farthing, looks to be a George III, and the date is very hard to read, but looks like it could possibly be 1700's coin (barely make out a 7 where the start of the date should be), which means it would well and truly pre-date settlement of SA. Might just give it a soak in olive oil.

Mmm, the excitement must have gotten to me last night with my measurements, don't think it is a farthing, too big. Might be a half-penny, but seems a couple of mm too small (still see serrations on the rim). Anyway, here's another pic where you can see the head a bit better, though still very worn.

Ok, seems that 28mm is on the money for a half penny of that time after looking at a few other coins from that era, don't think it's quite 1700's, but damned close at most probably 1807 going by coin similarities (especially the rounded rear of the head is distinctive).
